The CAC is submitting this Letter of Intent for funding to expand the 'Parent School Partnership Program'(PSP) to Sarpy, Washington and Dodge Counties in Nebraska.The CAC in collaboration with The Omaha Public School District has developed a comprehensive strategy to increase parental involvement in their children's education that will lead to improved access to higher education.


The Parent School Partnership Program is a national program designed to train parents, school personnel and community based organizations to lead in the educational attainment of children. The program curriculum focuses on providing parents with 16 weeks of skills training in parent rights and responsibilities; structure and function of schools; the parent/teacher partnerships; understanding group process; principles of leadership; and the road to diversity. Participants currently enrolled in PSP are parents of middle-school students in the Omaha Public School District.


One of the sessions involves helping parents understand the rigorous process that students go through in order to become eligible for college.Parents are made aware of this long process so that they can be prepared to counsel their children later on when they need to take certain courses in high school in order to be eligible for college. The follow up session is for parents and their children to realize that a university education is an open option regardless of the financial situation of the parents.Parent and child experience first hand by taking a local university campus tour and learn to work together towards the student attaining a four-year university.

When asked to identify changes in their attitudes and knowledge because of their participation in the program, parents overwhelmingly report a sense of belonging and partnership with the school and administration in the education of their child that was measured by an increased involvement in the school and in the education of their children.For example, parents have increased their involvement at PTA meetings, were responsible for the formation of a new PTA at a local school where none existed, and were responsible for changing policy by convincing 75 percent of the parents to agree to implement the use of uniforms as the dress code at their school.


Expenses estimated to expand the program to include additional participants includes personnel, travel, recognition awards, and parent stipends. Additional costs will be provided by collaborating agencies.Anticipated sources of support will be derived from corporate donations, private donors, and in-kind. Dexter spends the next several years obsessed after her and finally develops the strength to move on. He begins dating a girl named Irene Sheerer and they get engaged. Dexter moves away to New York and ten years or so later is living by himself. At the end of the story a man who knows of Judy walks into Dexter's office and tells him that she is married with children, her husband treats her badly, and she has lost her beauty and is unhappy.

Yet he is still willing to flirt with any woman on the ship who will affirm the feeling of superiority about himself that he appreciate in his heart.


At the begging of the story Fitzgerald describes riches "they are different form you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful". This is clearly seen in Anson, he was born rich, and he always have what he want. And he thinks that he would always have Paula, so he can't have a commitment with her. He practically play with her, but at the end he is the one that loose the more important thing, love. He realize what Paula was to him very late and, like Dexter he can fulfilled his love dream, the only dream that they have. But there is a big difference between Dexter and Anson. The firs one had to sacrifice a lot to get into a good position, besides Anson who was born rich and he was in a good status all the time. Despite this difference, both couldn't reach there goal, there dream which was the love of a women.

Kafka's intent in this passage is not only to examine the border between the explorer's homeland and the penal colony; but also the emotional-border within the self.The author writes, "He [the explorer] was neither a member of the penal colony nor a citizen of the state to which it belonged," (06).This separation between a homeland, colony, and state constitutes an overdetermined border.The process of punishment is an old ritual which in the past was regarded with much prestige by the people of the colony.The explorer, surrounded by this overdetermined border, is hesitant to reproach the execution because he understands he is in a demarcated culture "Were he to denounce their method of execution or actually try to stop it, they could say to him You are a foreigner, mind your own business," (06).Thus, the explorer must decide if he should mediate decisively in a foreign-affair.


Kafka's complex representation of the explorer serves as a tool to emphasize the obscurity within the self. The explorer, fearful that he may be confronted with the fact that he is a foreigner, seeks a comeback.If he could "add that he was amazed at himself in his connection, for he traveled only as an observer, with no intention at all of altering other people's methods of administering justice," (06) then he could give a seemingly unbiased opinion. However, the explorer is well-aware that he is exceedingly inclined towards altering the method of punishment because "the injustice of the procedure and the inhumanity of the execution were undeniable," (06).As a result, the more-developed argument arises whether it is permissible to intervene in a foreign-matter when justice and humanity are at stake?


Before answering this question let us consider the correlation between justice and compassion.According to Kafka, a parallel does exist between justice and compassion.Punishment is a process which requires righteousnessonly by applying justice to it, can there be humanity.In order to be humane, one must be sympathetic towards other humans.


Accordingly, it can be understood that in order for justice to be administered properly, the judge, or more explicitly, the individual delivering a verdict, must be compassionate.Yet; to return to the question of whether justice and humanity justify the intervention of a foreigner, Kafka seems to contradict himself.He writes, "No one could suppose that he [the explorer] had any selfish interest in the matter, for the condemned man was a complete stranger, not a fellow countryman or even at all sympathetic to him," (06). To be sympathetic means to be compassionate. Therefore, when Kafka creates a defense for the explorer by stating that he is not sympathetic, the reader is lead to believe that it is necessary to be impartial in the process of judgment.


In summary, it is questionable if Kafka is inviting the reader to accept cruelty and injustice as though they were necessary in life; or if he is insinuating that it is only necessary for an outsider to be impartial in foreign-affairs.In the same manner that the explorer is ambiguous about his own philosophy on judgment; Kafka seems to have purposefully left his argument unclear and unanswered.When is it ethical for a person to intervene in foreign-affairs?

The first onslaught of Operation Barbarossa in 141 had carried the German armies to the outskirts of Moscow and Leningrad. In the summer of 14 Hitlers main target was the oil fields of the Caucasustheir capture would deprive the Russians of their fuel supply as well as give the Germans a shorter supply line. Simultaneously the German Sixth Army was ordered to take Stalingrad; a long urban strip strung out along the west bank of the Volga. During the summer of 14 the Germans advanced to the suburbs of Stalingrad but failed to take the city itself against a determined defence by the Red Army, despite repeated attacks by the 6th Army under Friedrich Paulus and part of the 4th Panzer Army under Ewald von Kleist. By September they had reached the citys centre, where they encountered stiff resistance from the Soviet 6nd Army under General Vasily I. Chuikov. The citys Soviet defenders had been driven almost to the Volga by mid-October, but the Germans supplies were beginning to run low, their tanks were of little value in the constant street fighting, and winter was approaching. The Russian army occupying Stalingrad was fanatical. It contested every street and factory, whether still standing or totally destroyed. The state that Stalingrad was in made it impossible for the Germans to bring in tanks or any other heavy artillery. Territory which the Germans, with their superior firepower, had won by day was regained by night. At the same time Soviet armies, ultimately numbering an estimated 1 million men was being built up. On 1 November, preceded by an enormous barrage, forces under General Zhukov attacked on both German flanks. Within 5 days they had executed a pincer movement that encircled 50,000-00,000 German and satellite troops. Hitler forbade Paulus from attempting to break out to the rear, which he might have done early in the encirclement.


Goering promised him an airlift which never occurred. A relief army stalled in December and rations had to be reduced. Ammunition was runningSoviets trap more than 50,000 Germans in Stalingrad low. In January the


Russians called on von Paulus to surrender. Hitler ordered him to refuse, made him a Field Marshal and informed him that no German Field Marshal had ever been taken alive. The German position was now hopeless. Troops slowly froze, starved and ran out of ammunition. Pauluss forces were divided into two parts by a Russian push forward. By 0 January he was trapped in the basement of the large department store in Stalingrad where he had set up his final HQ. To Hitlers disappointment he preferred to surrender and live onFebruary he and his staff gave themselves up. By then 70,000 Germans had died in Stalingrad. The Russians took 1,000 prisoners, including twenty-four German generals. Only 6000 ever returned. Hitler himself said, The god of war has gone over to the other side'

Stalingrad was a turning point in the war because it was the first time the German South-Eastern advance had been stopped this resulted in the Germans losing somewhere from 50,000 to 00,000 men in the battle that could have been evacuated if it was not for Hitler's stubbornness and some 600,000 dead German soldiers were found after the battle. After the battle of Stalingrad Soviet armies began the series of offensives that eventually led them to Berlin. Stalingrad proved to be the turning point of the military struggle between Germany and the Soviet Union. The battle used up precious German reserves, destroyed two entire German armies, and humiliated the prestigious German war machine. It also marked the increasing skill and professionalism of a group of younger Soviet generals who had emerged as capable commanders. Ferdinand, the son of the King Alonso, falls in love with Prospero's daughter Miranda. He begins to move logs for Miranda to prove that his love for her is true and claims, "but the mistress which I serve quickens what's dead/And makes my labors pleasures." (III, i, 6-7)Hauling logs, becomes Ferdinand's way of 'courting' Miranda, which causes her to fall madly in love with him. His act of moving these logs closely resembles the job of the stage crew in a play. A stage crew does everything they can to move the sets quickly in order to impress the audience. If Ferdinand represents the stage crew, then Miranda would represent the audience. Miranda is an extremely innocent character and her innocence can be associated with the audience before seeing a play for the first time. Before a play is ever seen, the members of the audience are 'virgins' to that play, just like Miranda is a virgin. The character Caliban, the slave of Prospero,is the hardest in the play to figure out. Caliban has a monstrous appearance and does some horrible things. However, his speech can be considered among the most beautiful in the play. While reading the play, the power struggle between the master and his slave becomes evident. Both Caliban and Prospero claim the island to be theirs and they try to get rid of one another. Caliban could represent the plays critic. In my monologue I play Laura a lady in her 0's to 0's that is "the other woman" in Kenneth's life. Laura is younger and sexier than his previous wife and has been with Kenneth for several years after finally persuading him to leave his wife and marry her. Laura hates being tied down to a house but likes to go out and have fun. She has no intentions of being a domestic slave.


To play a successful Laura emotional memory needs to come into use, as I have never been in a situation like this so therefore I have no experience playing her. Laura seems mad at the situation her life is in at this moment in time. So for me to play this role I have to relive a moment in my life where I was mad with what people want me to be and not what I am. These memories and feelings will help me express Laura's character in full depth, and help her release the person she wants to be.


To be a great actor people have to understand and be able to incorporate character objectives and motivation into their works. This encourages the acting to be more passionate and gives the character great depth. A well thought out example of this is the TV show 4. The main character Jack Bauer is an employee for the Counter Terrorist Unit, who works to keep the city of Los Angeles safe from terrorist activities. In the latest series Jack is working to try and stop a nuclear bomb from exploding in an unknown location in the city. But his only link to the bomb is the Nina Myers, the traitor who killed Jacks wife. This leaves Jack in an awkward situation as he has to work along side Nina to locate and disarm the bomb.


Jacks character is passionate about his family and those close to him. This is easily shown in the way Keifer Sutherland (Jack) reacts around Nina and his daughter Kim. Jacks anger and hatred for Nina is incredibly realistic although he does not let this affect the way he works whilst being in her presence. Jacks character requires extreme character objectives and motivation due to the situations he is put in, and in tern creates a suspenseful series in which the plot is never what it seems.


Observation is the unique ability to take characteristics off someone or something else you have observed. This can come into use when you are playing a "make believe character" for example there is a crazy lady who catches my bus and by watching her I can learn many ways in which to act like her. This skill can be used in many, many ways.


Lee Strasberg was born in Budanov, Ukraine, on 17th November, 101. The Strasberg family emigrated to the United States in 108. Strasberg lived in Lower East Side of New York and as a teenager he began acting in plays.


Strasberg studied in Moscow under the Russian director, Konstantin Stanislavsky, who had developed a system of training and rehearsal for actors which bases a performance upon inner emotional experience.


In 11 Strasberg joined with Harold Clurman to form the Group Theatre in New York. Members of the group tended to hold left-wing political views and wanted to produce plays that dealt with important social issues.


The Group Theatre disbanded in 141 and Strasberg moved to Hollywood. He returned to Manhattan in 147 where he joined with Elia Kazan to form the Actors Studio. Over the next few years he helped to train a large number of actors including Marlon Brando, Rod Steiger, Eli Wallach, Patricia Neal, Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro. Lee Strasberg died on 17th February, 18.

The Dutch were originally the most prominent western influence in southeast Asia, but eventually Britain and France expanded their influence to places such as Singapore and Vietnam. Because these colonies were so far away from the ruling countries, nations ran their new territory in one or both of two ways; directly and indirectly. By ruling a territory directly, local elites were removed and replaced with officials from the ruling country. For example, Burma was ruled directly by Britain.Indirect rule was when the local rulers remained at their positions but in a new colonial setting. The Dutch East Indies was a colony that was ruled indirectly. The French often ruled their territories indirectly, but they provided advisors for the local emperors or rulers. Indirect rule had a lesser effect on the original culture of the colony, but even so it brought great changes to southeast Asia.


Monarchy was the form of government of most parts of Asia. China, for example, had been ruled by dynasties for centuries. Vietnam had just recently reunited from a civil war before the French colonized and tore up the country. Indonesia too had some major empires, such as the Srivijaya Empire, before the Dutch invaded. When Europeans took over and removed the governments of these countries, they were destroying decades if not centuries of governments that the natives were familiar with. This caused havoc in some parts of Asia because many had known no other way of government. It also destroyed social classes. If the ruling family no longer held their position, where would the rest of the nation be socially? This is one example of the things Europeans did not take into consideration before conquering.


The most dramatic and also lasting effect that Imperialism brought to southeast Asia was industry. Before Europeans first journeyed eastward, there was not much in the way of modern technology. Many countries had no need to modernize; there were no current problems with the way things were; others did not want to.Lack of contemporary equipment was what led to the taking over of many areas. Once countries were taken over, equipment was brought there to retrieve raw materials. Factories were built to manufacture more and at a quicker pace. A common misconception many people held is that without Europe, Asian people would never be up to date and would be suffering today. Not all of the new machinery was beneficiary to the natives on whose land they were built. Most of the native countries saw little of the wide profit that the new equipment brought. Most of it went directly to the ruling nations and stayed there.In some cases, the economic changes hurt the natives. Factory workers were paid very little in order to maximize profit, working conditions were retched, and on top of that natives were made to pay high taxes. Not all of the modernization had negative effects, however. Along with factories came schools. Most of the schools did not provide excellent education, as many of the ruling powers feared revolts, but they did provide an expanse of knowledge that eventually led to ideas of freedom, and independence. Some of the earliest anti-imperialism revolts were formed by students for the University of Rangoon in Burma; they protested against the British, saying that they did not observe local customs.

depends is the boss, and the boss is the first person for whose performace

have to like a leader to trust him.Trust is the conviction that the leader means


what he says.A leaders actions and a leaders professed beliefs must be


congruent, or at least compatible.Effective leadership is not based on being


clever; it is based primarily on being consistent.If your a good leader and


take care of your people they in return will take care of you.

businesses. Organizations will eventually have to change its personnel policies, its


compensation policies, its promotion policies.The biggest change will be the

middle manager and professionals have become alkenated from their company,


and especially from its top management.When companies downsize that usually


means that you will have to job hunt or relocate to another city/state.Loyalty and


trust is a two way street. People in middle management feel that the company


has deserted them when their asked to take pay cuts, severance pay, retire early


or just let go from the company.Lifettime employment for middle management


is a thing of the past.

Management is creative problem solving.The creative problem solving is


accomplished through the four functions of management planning, organizing,


leading and controlling.The result is the use of an organizations resources


in a way that accomplishes its mission and objectives.In order for an organization


to be successful the four functions of management must be applied daily.Without


the use of these four functions, organizations will fail.A manager must plan for the


future.Be it short term or long term.There must always be a plan available.


A manager must be organized and have organization over his people.Schedules


must be followed, task delegated to team members and work coordination.


Success and failure are tied directly to the reasons for being in business, mission


and objectives.Success requires both effectiveness and efficiency.A good


manager influences his peoples behavior through motivation, communication,


group dynamics, leadership and discipline.The purpose of leading is to


channel the behavior of all personnel to accomplish the organizations mission


and objective.Finally a manager must have control.Performance standards


are set, based on the organizations objectives measuring and reporting actual


performance, comparing the two, and taking corrective or preventive action


as necessary.
