Within the tragic play, Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman destroys himself trying to achieve a dream. Yet, the dream that destroys Willy is not one that he has chosen. Willy Loman does not choose this destructive dream because he does not know himself, Willy Loman does not choose a dream at all, one is forced upon him by society. This is the same "American Dream" discussed in the book the Great Gatsby and the corrupt nature it has conformed to. Within the book (Death of a Salesman) many forms of imagery help to express the futility and self destructive nature of the "American Dream."

Willy Loman spends the expanse of the play trying to achieve wealth, fame, and the like of others. These ideas epitomize the American Dream, to become a successful, well-liked businessman. Willys true dream, however, was very different from this. Throughout the play you can see evidence that Willy feels trapped by this dream that he feels obligated to fulfill. Society has dictated to Willy that the American Dream is the dream, and no other dream is acceptable. Because of this dictation, Willy abandons his true dream of living on his own, in the country, where he can support himself by farming, and living from the land. He then tries to peruse a dream of a successful businessman which he fails at.

Willy and Linda try to build their own version of the American dream with their family. In high school, Biff was the all-American boy as the captain of the football team. True to the myth of the all-American boy, girls and admiring friends surrounded him. Willy and Lindas lives are full of monthly payments on possessions that symbolize that dream a car, a home, and household appliances. The proliferation of monthly payments allowed families with modest incomes to hedge their optimistic bets against certain future success. The husband would surely advance to higher and better paid positions over time, but this doesn't happen to Willy. Rather Willy loses his position over time and turns to a corrupt way of retaining some wealth to support his family. Willys failure to succeed is partly due to his own personal flaws, but it is also due to the cultural values that shape his life. Willy is a salesman. His job requires that he appear confident and self-assured. This facade protects him from the inevitable indifference of reluctant buyers. Ironically, Willys facade is his first and most important product. He has to successfully sell himself before he can sell his product line. Willys primary problem is that he cannot separate himself from his professional role. Therefore, a buyers rejection of Willys sales pitch constitutes a personal rejection. It threatens Willys view of himself, as he mixes his personal identity with his professional role.

The things that are meant to happen in business are success, wealth and esteem. This is what Ben has achieved and done. Miller stressed his success and material reward in Ben. He does this by Ben repeating himself a lot,I walked into the jungle, and when I came out I was rich. But Ben also has emptiness in spite of his success. In the eyes of the audience, he has no real happiness. He to is caught in the corrupt "American Dream."

Factors influencing the labour market outcomes are broad and their powers and influence are, in some cases, concurrent. This means they can be considered to influence more than one particular sector and their influences over lap with the influences of another sector.

The most obvious and prominent are the influences of global and national political & economical factors, which are indirect influences. Where as Government legislation and intervention, discrimination in the workplace, and employee & employer Unions are all types of direct influences.

Indirect influences are those that contributeto the labour market as well as other factors. On a global scale, factors that affect the international economy, such as global currency, will eventually affect a particular nation that is financially strained. Through a political point ofview International conflicts or decisions could ultimately have an effect on other nations, for example, the well known attacks on September 11 and a war could have a negative impact on the labour market.

Buy custom Factors that influence labour market outcomes term paper

National factors are the best example of concurrent influences. Government legislations could be passed for a particular issue , but coherentlyaffects the labour market, for example, price floors and ceilings.

Although the Government can also be considered to be a direct influence by making or passing a specific legislation with direct comprehension of the labour market effects.

For example, the intervention of the law through things like Federal Awards, Enterprise Agreements and even the basic contract is binded by specific legal standards.

These legislations are implemented to cease and prevent cases of discrimination, unequal pay or sexual harassment in the workplace. In such cases, it is sometimes difficult for the employee ,who is subject to this unfairness, to confront their supervisors or boss, or sometimes even the Government. This may be due to a feeling of intimidation, or the lack of knowledge of the legal system and rights. This is why it is important to have unions.

Unions are organizations that help employees achieve advances in particular areas of work such as occupational health, pay equity, sex discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace. They are organised be employees and they represent workers when dealing with employers and the Government.

Discrimination against women is one of the most prominent and evolving issues of the world. The role of women in the workforce has changed dramatically over the years and women have come a long way since then. But discrimination is still dominant in the workforce and unions and associations have been established to support and equip women with all the knowledge that is needed.

One of these brilliant organizations is the Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workforce Agency.

Order your - Lost and Found - paper at affordable prices !I had just gotten home from my friends house when I saw that the door in my kitchen was unlocked. Once I had locked it I went into the living room to lie down and watch some television. It was only shortly after I finally found a good show on, that I heard a crunching and slurping sound behind all of the other loud sounds. I lowered the volume, listened for a few seconds and then got back to my show. When the next show had started, the sounds started again but now there was another sound that I couldn't make out. This time I got up and walked to the kitchen where I was scared to death when I saw my cousin. I hadn't seen him for 1 years and here he was eating celery, drinking ginger ale and frying sausages in my kitchen ato'clock in the morning.

The last time I had seen him was just before he went to his favorite Belgian food restaurant, called L'actuel at 114 Peel Street. This time, unlike others, he went alone to L'actuel. He also took a credit card. If you know my cousin the rest falls right into place. The owner called us at around midnight to tell us that my cousin owes $500.00 to him and he had to work it off until every cent was paid back. After he worked it off he never came back until now. He is trying to explain but I can't understand a word over the noise of the celery…anyways, where were we… right. He scurried on to a plane to a desert island, which he wasn't allowed to tell me about. The reason and only reason why he went there was because they told him that he would get the return flight free of charge. In the desert, he stayed there for eleven and a half years because that was the only other place he could take. We thought he had died three years after he went missing. He explains his eleven and a half years there as a lifetime. The only things he had to eat were leaves and turnips. He says that of everything he didn't have for eleven and half years, the one he missed the most, was eating Belgian food at L'actuel. He tells me that he came to my house now, because L'actuel was closed and this was the closest place with food.

My cousin just went to sleep because he was extremely tired. I think that the one and only thing he will want to do tomorrow, is eat Belgian food at L'actuel. I think I will go with him.

The last time I had seen my cousin he was twelve (1) years old. He was thin and short. Now 1 years later, he has become a grown up. He has gained a little bit of weight, and has a mustache.

He has a very hearty appetite. He ordered almost everything off the menu. After all, it had been a long, long time since he had eaten at this restaurant. He could not decide what to order, so he ordered one of everything on the menu.

I really enjoyed seeing my cousin again after all those years. It was like a lifetime ago, but at the same time it seemed like he never left at all. We talked about our lives before he left, all the fun we used to have together, and all the games we used to play.

Pretty soon, it will be back to normal around here and I won't even know the difference or feel weird around him. We have a lot of catching up to do, but we will have lots of time to do so.

We will make new memories together and share them always.

"The customer is king." That simple, yet powerful, phrase describes today's approach of marketing. Whereas a few years ago, the marketing approach was more towards selling for a profit, today's approach is more towards maintaining that profit at whatever means. This means more interaction with the customer, interactions which aim at getting to know its customers better by building lasting alliances. This is the primary drive behind building relationship. Besides, it is relationship that greatly benefits today's companies, whether they belong to the goods or the service sector.

Of the many competing companies out there trying to grab a piece of the big, benefit pie, Wal Mart and Target are excellent examples of companies that rely on building strong relationships. These companies are not only big and renown, but they are direct competitors. Both engage each in a never-ending war on selling to customers, but most importantly, keeping that customer. Both companies do this by offering excellent service (whether it is in the store itself or online), affordable prices, customer feedback link, and the satisfaction of having that customer back real soon. Besides these similarities, both companies have several differences.

Besides the prices and the staff behind it, Wal Mart and Target have several differences that are aimed particularly on building relationship with customers. These differences can be viewed through their respective websites. Target.com offers just about every product that the traditional store offers with the convenience of ordering it from the web. In its homepage, one can view what's on sale as well as searching for the nearest store and navigating through their inventory. Also, Target.com has links to other sites such as Amazon.com as well as a link to apply for credit at Target. Walmart.com offers just about the same the service as its competitor. However, Walmart.com goes a step further. This company is proud of its gigantic inventory, as it implies upon viewing the homepage. Unlike Target.com that relies on Amazon.com for books (and much more), Walmart.com offers up to 500,000 titles from its own inventory. Also, Walmart.com is very updated in regard to the time of the year. The site recommends items for such upcoming events like graduations and Father's Day. Aside from this, Walmart.com has a link in which, people can get discounts and news regarding merchandise and suggestions upon typing your email address.

Upon viewing both websites, I have to the conclusion of considering Wal Mart's site the better of the two. Not that Target.com is bad, for it isn't, but Walmart.com offers just a little more. This, of course, is just a part of the service they provide. But on the long run, it can be the means of success that Wal Mart has been experiencing throughout these past years. For in the past, Wal Mart's success was primarily based on offering low prices and a variety of goods. Now, Wal Mart is maintaining that success by expanding its service (i.e. Walmart.com). Building relationship is the key to Wal Mart's service, the key to just about any other company in today's customer-oriented society.

Personal Goals

Recently I found myself at a crossroad in life.I needed to evaluate what I really wanted to accomplish and why.Should I continue on the same path I was on or take a side trip leading to new opportunities? After giving it much thought, I determined the latter choice coincided with my personal goal of attaining my bachelor degree. This paper will discuss my personal goals as they apply to my educational career with the University of Phoenix, as well as some of my strengths and weaknesses that will contribute to my success.

Returning to college, as a working adult, is a challenge for anyone.Up to this point, I had been successful obtaining positions that would normally require a bachelor degree.I was able to prove I was suitable for management positions in various capacities simply with hard work and perseverance. My last position exposed me to new areas of interest in technology and project management that I desiderated pursuing. After I became unemployed last year I found myself back in the job market. It had become much more competitive than I ever had known. However, this presented me with the opportunity to pursue my newfound interests. This is the primary objective that I hope to meet by attending the University of Phoenix.

Identifying strengths and weaknesses that will affect my success as a student requires more examination.I possess many attributes of strength that will help me achieve my goals, primarily my high work ethic and relentless quest for knowledge.I take pride in my accomplishments and ability to recognize opportunities.I believe in integrity and am adept at holding those who work with me to the same standard.Since the University of Phoenix exercises a team learning concept this virtue will make me an advantageous member of my group.Undoubtedly, my appetite for learning will provide me with the motivation I need to focus and complete the task I have assigned myself. In addition, I tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist. The beneficial result of this characteristic is that I am very detail oriented and strive for excellence.

Order custom research paper on Personal Goals

Weaknesses are much harder to admit and determine when looking at oneself. My most inhibiting weakness is my innate affinity for travel. As I mentioned before, I have an insatiable desire to learn and experience new things. In the past, I have considered the world around me as my primary classroom.Invariably, my belief has been to broaden my life experience and education by being exposed to diversified environments.By prioritizing this as my means of education, I have slighted the obvious avenues of traditional learning.I now need to refocus this belief to encompass academia as one that is as equally important.

Overall, going back to school will afford me a new set of experiences and opportunities. The use of affirmations, such as "I am enthusiastic about learning," will steady my course toward my goal (Gross, 1, p. 66).By working on my recognized weaknesses and building on my stated strengths I will learn the discipline I need to fulfill my goal of obtaining a bachelor degree.Furthermore, I will be more successful in the pursuit of my new career interests.

The movie "The Hurricane" is a thought provoking account of a

remarkable life not soon to be forgotten. The movie takes place in Paterson,

New Jersey duringthe 160's. During this time, there was a high degree of

Order College Papers on Ruben "Hurricane" Carter

racial intolerance. Black people were thought to be racially inferior and were

treated unequally. Human rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr.,

described their dreams for equality and unity in America. Admist all this was a

man named Rubin Carter. He was to learn how racial prejudice would imprison

his life.

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter embodies the characteristics of a man who

transcended his awful environment and looked within himself for the strength

and courage to overcome. Carter was a prize fighter. His furious fighting record

earned him the professional name "Hurricane." On May 6, 167 the career of

Rubin "Hurricane" Carter came to a shuddering end. He and a young man were

found guilty of murdering three people at a New Jersey bar. This was the second

time he was incarcerated in his lifetime. His life was to be spent in prison for a

crime he did not commit. Rubin was framed for these murders. He was the victim

of racial prejudice and hatred.

Serving a life sentence behind bars, Rubin began to study, read, and

write. He wrote a book as an attempt to set the record straight. He was an

innocent man in prison because of corrupt authorities filled with prejudice. This

book brought a young man named Lesra into his life. Lesra was touched by

Rubin's remarkable story. They shared a special connection which led to a

powerful friendship. Lesra and the three Canadians he lived with; Terry, Lisa

and Sam, truly believed in Rubin's innocence. They moved to New Jersey

determined to find evidence that would set Rubin free. Their love and dedication

to a just cause was what burst Rubin out of prison. He was found innocent when

his case was presented to the federal court.

The authorities that helped put Rubin Carter in prison abused their power

and acted as negative leaders. They let their racist views blind them from truth.

This shows that not all leaders are good people. In contrast to corrupt leaders;

Lesra, Terry, Sam and Lisa showed many good leadership attributes. They took

the initiative to fight for justice. Although they came upon many obstacles, they

did not lose sight of their cause; Rubin Carter's freedom. This shows that one

can never underestimate the power of love and determination.

"I'm indeed a miracle! Hate put me in prison, and love burst me out!"

-Rubin "Hurricane" Carter

Rubin Carter epitomizes the power of perseverance. He knew he was

innocent and remained defiant about his cause. Carter would not give up and

kept fighting for his right to be free. Rubin was deprived of life for nineteen years

and yet he was able to stay sane. This shows a man with a strong character and

a strong will to survive. He walked out of a prison, not as a bitter man, but a man

who learnt from his experience. He is truly a man to look up to and admire.

"If I have learned nothing else in my life, Ive learned that bitterness only

consumes the vessel that contains it."

-Rubin Carter

Linda couldnt get all her tution fees from mom so she had to call to ask if I could help out. I did help out by sendin her some of the money you sent via Segun to me, not that what you sent to me was more than enough but I had to be a shoulder to cry and lean on for my sister. Tho she asked me if it would be a better idea if she wrote to tell you but I told it wouldnt cos the letter might not get to you that fast and school was already in session so she shelfed the idea. Waitin for mom to might take eternity cos we dont know when exactly she would send the rest so I was her last resort since we didnt want to burden Auntie Martha and her husband considering the fact that all her kids are now in the nd cycle institution, the last onell be goin next academic session and the deposit they ask for is not small and now all the responsibility is now resting on her cos her husbands business is not as vibrant as it use to be to say the list. So dad in essence Im saying that if you could please get us an adittional million, half for Linda and he project(Shes in her final year now and shell be needin money for her project, shes started a mini one already) and Ill use half to balance my account. I know its not been easy within this short period, considering the project you have at hand an my siblings education too, but I had nowhere else to turn to but to you dad. I know soon thingsll be normal.

School is now in full swing and Im adjusting well, not there is really anything to adjust to as it where after goin it thru it once in UI, but that was the closest word I could think of. I was affiliated to Commonwealth Hall a.k.a Vandal City and that makes me a Chief Vandal in coat but we the first year student, most of us, couldnt get accomodation but i hope i get someone to put up with. So for now I come from Auntie Sallys place every mornin which is not quite easy but at the Im sorry for dis obeying your direct order not to spend even a night at her place. I had to do it cos I had no other option I couldnt come from Ednas place its too far and ll consume my money faster than I could say Cephas Jr. im really very sorry dad I didnt intend to flunt your rule intentionally but due to the situation of things pls forgive me dad. I tried gettin a place at the private hostels but it was too expensive, million foroccupancy per simester. That was the cheapest so pls understand my reason for breakin your rule.

Dad continue to pray for me and I for you cos I have to make a CGPA of .50 before I(not I alone but I prefer to use the singular term) will be listed for the medical sch tho the cutoff varies yrly but with .5 Ill be on the far safer side and I promise to make you proud as long as you also promised to be behind me 100%. Let it go dad!

Personal Statement Describe and discuss a significant experience or achievement that has special meaning to you. The 18 varsity football season was both a significant experience and achievement for me. It was so extraordinary that it defiantly has a special meaning to me. As a team we won North Coast Section (NCS) of California, Division III, and were ranked number one in the state, Division III. This immense reward was not simply given out to every team but instead we had to earn it. After it was all over and completed I could truthfully say that earning it was not easy. One week after we got out for summer last year we started preparing ourselves physically for the upcoming season. As a team through the whole summer we lifted and ran four days a week. It was difficult because all the other high school kids were at the beach, while I was working hard in the gym or on the track. In the championship game I was the one out there while they were the ones in the stands wishing they could be a part of it all. That summer was when I knew varsity football was going to be a commitment. The night before we were going to begin double days, two practices every day for a week, we all slept in the gym as one group united as a team. During that evening we discussed and set goals that we would strive for and that would guide are season on a prosperous path. We came up with three goals go undefeated, win NCS, and be number one in the state. From that point on I committed myself to the team and that it stood for and represented. I knew this commitment would need my devotion and I felt I could make sacrifices in my life in order to be committed. We came into the season ranked number one and that meant we had to keep it. In order to maintain at the top we had to go undefeated. This was once again not easy because the season was mostly filled with tough opponents who would not simply allow us to win. I did not play the star role in these games but I was simply on two special teams, kick off and kick return, and played a little time at linebacker. I still was part of it all by devoting myself 100% to every game and practice. We defeated our first nine opponents and ended up in the playoffs. We gave it our all and won two playoff games versus two of the most competitive opponents I have ever played. In the championship game the special teams I was on were unbelievable. The kickoff team caused the other team to turnover the ball and the return team returned the ball all the way for a touchdown, the first time all season. I was part of both of these teams and am proud to say it. It was a game that brought me pride and happiness. I can now say that this season was well worth the commitment because the reward was so magnificent. We were not simply a championship team but a family. Throughout the season we bonded to each other and moved each week toward a common goal. It felt so good inside to have reach each of our goals. I now look at the plaque on my wall and the championship football ring on my hand and words such as pride, courage, commitment, sacrifice, and family come to mind.

My name is crystal tina tenner. I am fifteen years old. I was born at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. I was born into this world by my lovely mother Patricia Rainey on September 15,188. When I was born I was light skinned with light brown or sometimes hazel eyes, fat and full of joy.

In my lifetime up to now I have had numerous of people that have been most important to me. First and always first is my mother. My mother is most important to me because she for one thing brought me into this world, takes care of me and most importantly loves me. My aunt and uncle are also very important to me because they took me into their home and treated me as if I was their own child. One person that is important to me is my godmother. My god mother is always their for me, she helps me in life and she also takes full care of me in all possible ways. Another person that is special is my sister. My sister is like my best friend because she does anything and everything for me even though she haskids of her own. Last but defiantly not least, my best friends slash cousin. She is so important to me because she is always there for me when every I need her. She is the person other then my sister that I talk to. She is like a sister I never had. All of these people I love dearly and they love and care about me too.

In my lifetime I have had many important things that has happened to me. One time is when my sister had my baby niece. When she had her I was unable to be there but my mother was on the phone with me while she was in labor and it seemed to be the most beautiful thing ever. The first time I ever say her, she was so beautiful. Another event sorts like that was when my godmother had my god brother. Except this time it was more serious because he was premature. When I first saw him he was so small and helpless but he soon after a while became healthy like any other child and now he is just like my niece bad. One most important event was when I went to my first concert. It was Scream Tourstarring Bowwow, BK and IMX. It was so special because I was seen some of my favorite entertainers in person performing. That day I was so happy and now after that I attend almost all of their concerts.

So far at this moment in my life I have become very interested in quite a few things. One thing that I have become interested in has been fashion modeling and acting. I want so badly for my dream of becoming those to come true. I also have became interested in other things such as band, like any other girl boys, and many other things and most importantly I don't let any of these things interfere with school. I make sure what ever I do I keep my main focus on school. During my leisure time I like to eat, play sports, talk and hang out with my friends, sleep and just be myself.

The person that I am today has been through so much to get where she is today and still has plenty more to come. I see myself as an achieved student and an achieved person overall. Although I still have maturity time left I have matured a lot and have become much more adult-like. I see my self in the future as being my dream as stated before or being a children's doctor but hopefully one of my dreams will come true. To try tom accomplish my dreams and goals I will strive for the best and just plainly work hard to achieve my dreams.

In the United States Constitution and its subsequent amendments, there is in no place a reference to the so-called "Right to Privacy." But in several Supreme Court Cases, the judges have ruled in favor of a certain decision by stating that people of the United States have a "Right to Privacy."How do these judges make the conclusion that there is a right to privacy guaranteed in the constitution, when it is not specifically written? The answer is, that they imply the power based on several of the already predefined amendments.

In the Supreme Court Case, Gideons vs. Connecticut, the Court ruled that the Connecticut law stating that no contraceptive may be used. The plaintiff argued that a person should not be penalized for something they do in their own home. When the case reached the Supreme Court, the Court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, stating that there was a right to privacy in a man's home.In Mapp vs. Ohio, (Mapp) Police received an anonymous tip that there was a bomber inside the residence of a Mrs. Mapp. They came to her house, and she refused to let them in without a search warrant. The police came back later, handcuffed Mapp, and found several items of obscene material throughout her house. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of Mapp, stating the right to privacy in a person's home, and the guarantees that the fourth and fourteenth amendments have.

What gives the court the right to base a decision on the right to privacy? The first amendment to the Constitution states that people have the rights of speech, religion, press, petition, and "assembly." More specifically, "freedom to associate." The court ruled that "the disclosure of membership lists of a constitutionally valid association, was invalid."It also ruled that "we have protection in the associations that are not political in the customary sense, but pertain to the social, legal, and economic benefit of the members," in NAACP vs. Button. (U.S. Supreme Court N.A.A.C.P. V. Button)

Another reason why the right to privacy is implied is the fourth and fifth amendments. In Boyd vs. US, they are used as protection against invasions "of the sanctity of a man's home and the privacies of life."In Mapp vs. Ohio, the fourth amendment was referred to as "a right to privacy, no less important than any other right carefully and particularly reserved to the people."The forth is also referred to in Griswold vs. Connecticut case as "the right to be left alone."In NAACP vs. Alabama, (N.A.A.C.P. vs. Alabama) the fourth and first amendments were used in conjunction to say "we have the right to associate and to have privacy in one's associations." Order custom research paper on fouth amendment

Throughout the brief history of the Supreme Court, hundreds of cases have been held.Several of those cases have had the decision based on the "right to privacy."The problem is, that no where in any version or in any language does the United States Constitution specifically say we have a right to privacy.Even one of the most controversial cases in history, Roe vs. Wade, (Roe v. Wade) had a decision that was based at least partially on the "right to privacy."Whether the fourth amendment is written or implied by the courts, one thing is for sure, due to the ninth and fourteenth amendments, there is no way, that a state or national law will ever take away our so called "Right to Privacy."

Please note that this sample paper on fouth amendment is for your review only. All schools in Valley View District 65U are back in session, and one of our biggest

responsibilities as parents again comes to the forefront in our lives.

There are few more important things in a young persons development than the education

they receive. These critical years will, to a large extent, affect their career prospects and earning

potential.

Ive spoken to enough parents to know that each of us shares the desire for our children to become

productive, responsible adults, but the question is, how do we reach that goal?

Although there isnt one clear path, numerous studies have shown that the best way to keep children

moving in the right direction is to communicate, in words and actions, that education should be a priority

in their lives.

On Monday, each Valley View School District elementary, middle and high school homeroom teacher

distributed a Student-Parent Handbook and Planner. These booklets were thoughtfully prepared by

administrators and teachers to help keep students on track. Each outlines the schools mission statement

as well as specific student services, responsibilities, policies, procedures and discipline program.

In addition, each teacher has taken the time to send home specific guidelines about what is expected in

their class. Most ask parents to read the guidelines and then send back a signed confirmation.

Parents need to make sure they just dont blindly sign these papers. We all are busy with many things

in our lives, but we must remember that our children are always watching. When we dont take the time

to go through these materials we send a silent message to our kids that it must not be that important. We

often forget that we communicate the loudest when we say nothing at all.

If a child believes their parents work or other activities take precedence over the childs academic

pursuits, they will respond accordingly.

According to many local educators, a great way to show your children you are interested in their

education is to have them recap what they like most and least about school. Then ask them what they

think it would take for them to have their best year academically.

Also, educators say that parents need to take the time to attend the open houses that schools will be

having over the next couple of weeks.

Teachers and administrators appreciate parents who are constructively involved and dont consider

them as the enemy in their childrens education. Let your children know that you respect their teacher,

and they should as well.

On a totally unrelated note, guess who I ran intoor more appropriately ran next tolast

weekend?

I was doing my treadmill workout and asked the guy working out next to me if hed pass me the remote.

When I turned to thank him, I started thinking that he looked really familiar.

I couldnt place him right away, but Ive met a ton of people and sometimes I cant readily put names to

faces. So I asked him, Do I know you from somewhere?

Anyway, he looked at me, smiled and said, Maybe. So then Im feeling stupid because I wonder if he

thinks I am trying to hit on him.

To make a long story short (or in my case a short story long), it was Bryant Gumbel. He was in town

as part of the celebrity golf tournament played at Bolingbrook Golf Club.

Theme Statement With resurrection great achievements will be accomplished.

"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done..."Charles Dickens', A Tale of Two cities, implies the thought of reinventing the reader and making great sacrifices. The theme is portrayed mainly by two characters, Sydney Carton and Dr. Manette. The theme is shown throughout the novel. This theme is also intertwined with love and good against bad.

Dr. Manette in the beginning of the novel, was in solitary confinement for 18 long years. This caused him to go insane. For instance when he was released into Mr. Defarge's care he started to believe he was a shoe cobbler and could not even remember his own name. But later when he is reunited with his daughter, Lucie Manette, is resurrected back to his old self.

Help with essay on In Between the Two Cities

Ironically, Jerry Cruncher implies the actual possibility of resurrection being in the business of " grave robbing." Later on in the novel he discovers that Old Foulon, one of the French aristocrats, has faked his death to survive uprising but when it was later known he was alive, he was later murdered, which exemplifies good against evil.

Yet, Sydney Carton plays the most significant role of all.

In the beginning of the novel he helps Charles Darnay be acquitted of treason charges, but this would not be the last time he helps him. Darnay yet again gets tried for treason and would surely face death. Carton, whom is deeply in love with Lucie Manette, vows to do anything and everything for her, sacrifices his own life in the place of her husband, Mr. Darnay, for her to be happy. Before his execution she kisses him and Carton says " I am the Resurrection and the life, saith the Lord he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." The child who lay upon her bosom bore his name. The child shall be resurrected as Carton, as the parents tell his story of honored. And the child will be free of the aristocratic name and therefore his life will be saved. This gave his life the ultimate meaning of his resurrection.

Another example is the transformation of Mr. Defarge, when he makes a moral uprising against his sinister wife Madame Defarge. She tells him he is losing sight of the revolution's cause. His devotion to help the Manette's caused for his transformation.

The great theme in this novel expresses itself through much smaller themes. Sacrifice is one of them. The example of which Carton sacrifices himself for Darnay implies the thought one must to achieve resurrection through Lucie's child, and Carton displays that to the fullest.

The theme in this novel has a very universal meaning and might apply for a lot of readers in life. The thought of reinvention is appealing for most people to change personalities or point of views.

" It was the best of time, it was the worst of times..."

The theme of this novel was written from the stand point of Charles dickens. The act of goodness being brought out from the bad. From his view it seems more personal and was beautifully written. Instead of a sad-feeling ending the reader gets a sense of achievement through the eyes of Mr. Carton, which stands out among readers.

The Columbia space craft lifted off on January 16, 00 going on a 16 day science mission. There were seven astronauts onboard for the journey, including Israel's first man in space. Then the unexpected happened.About 15 minutes before the Columbia would land in Cape Canaveral, Florida, the shuttle went to pieces. All seven of the astronauts were lost. The Columbia was going Mach 18, or 18 times the speed of sound, at an altitude of over 00,000 feet when contact was lost. The cause is currently unknown, but there are a couple scenarios.

There was a problem at liftoff. After about a minute passed, a piece of insulation foam broke off of the fuel tank and hit the bottom of the left wing.No one knew this until about a day later. If it would have been noticed at liftoff the mission may have been aborted.Since it was not noticed until a day late it would have been hard to abort and mission managers said it would not effect the shuttle. They based their judgments on past happenings of insulation hitting the wings.

Another scenario was that the aerodynamic structural breakup of the shuttle caused by the shuttle rolling down at the wrong angle. After reentry to the earth's atmosphere, the shuttle comes down toward earth without any engine power. The only way to control it is by using flaps, which is said to be extremely hard.

Debris was seen falling off the shuttle as far west as California before it was disintegrated over Texas. The pieces of shuttle that fell off over California may have burned up completely before reaching the ground because they were so small.More than ,600 pieces of debris have been sent to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. About ,500 of those pieces have been identified as part of the shuttle and cataloged.Investigators are going to try to assemble as much of the shuttle as possible to see if they can find out what happen. In addition to the pieces already sent to Kennedy Space Center another 10,000 pieces are headed to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. All kinds of debris was found, from parts of the shuttle such as the nose and pieces of tiles to patches and helmets worn by the crew members. This was the first fatal accident in reentry history for NASA.Most problems usually happen at liftoff, but the Russians mastered it in 161 and the United States did it a few years later. Write your The Columbia Tragedy research paper

The board of investigators was split into three groupsmaterials, operations, and technical. They are trying to find out if the foam that hit the wing and made a hole in it is the reason for the shuttle being destroyed.

After the Challenger disaster in 186, NASA grounded space flight for about two years. That leaves a problem for the crew on the International Space Station. We have to get the crew members home some kind of way.Officials say that they might consider one more flight to bring them home. The other option would be to let them come home on the Russian Soyuz craft, which is a small capsule that is very uncomfortable to ride in.

We owe these brave astronauts our gratitude for the risks that they took in service of mankind. Their names areRick D. Husband, Commander, William C. McCool, Pilot, Michael P. Anderson, Payload Specialist, Kalpana Chawla, Mission Specialist, David M. Brown, Mission Specialist, Laurel B. Clark, Mission Specialist, Ilan Ramon, Payload Specialist.

A point of view in which a person is taking can change the way someone feels about the person or event that is being described. By the bias and stance the narrator has, characters or events can be changed in their relevance, importance, or relationship to the main idea by the narrator of a story. In Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, having the point of view seen through Lucie Manette's eyes would have dramatically changed the book for the better involving her tone and role as "the golden thread".

Lucie is often referred to as the golden thread in the novel because she connects many characters that otherwise would seem unrelated. For instance, she was the sole reason that Sydney Carton spoke with Charles Darnay several times after the trial. With many of the male characters being attraction to "the golden thread", this alias could also be taken as a physical trait, which she was known for as being very beautiful. The desire to be with Lucie Manette allowed for interaction between people such as Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton that would have a strong impact on the benevolent end to a book based on the French Revolution.

Lucie's light to the situation and compassion could have helped in the times of darkness and despair that surrounded the French Revolution. The whole story seems tragic and barbaric, but Lucie "recalling people to life" such as her father and her husband which balanced the hate and anguish of the other characters. While it may be occasionally nice to hear a nonbiased point of view in a novel, stories such as these thrive on the emotions involved with love and relationships that are a large part of the entire reason for the story. The narrator is anonymous and can be thought of as Dickens himself. The narrator is also omniscientsupplying historical context to the events that occur, but seemingly involved as merely an outsider looking in.

Understanding Lucie's feelings about everyone and her reaction and thoughts about Sydney Carton's sacrifice seemed important, but they were not mentioned thoroughly.Much of the reason for having stories that involve love and sacrifice in a time of greed, hatred, and chaos are to show the humanity and emotion that may seem absent from the events of the French Revolution. Very little is talked about in terms of her emotions. It was always one-sided conversations talking about how certain characters had a love for Lucie, but it was impossible to tell whether she even noticed that person.Sydney Carton was one of those people, and even in his final sacrifice in giving his life for a person that he loathed for Lucie's sake, much of her feelings of gratitude, admiration, and newfound esteem in Carton were not mentioned.

Cheap College Papers on A Tale of Two Cities Point of View

Lucie Manette's powerful influence on all of the other characters could have been more closely relatable, had she been the narrator. With her role as "the golden thread" she seems an obvious choice for the person to tell the story because she is the person to bring the story together. Putting the novel in Lucie's point of view with her tone may have significantly changed the readers' opinions of the novel because of the humanity found within the story about the French Revolution.

Order your Elizabeth Proctor paper at affordable prices with !I believe strongly that Elizabeth Proctor is innocent and believe that there is evidence upon evidence that can prove her innocence to the court and all the people who doubt her innocence.Elizabeth Proctor has never done anything that can be construed as witchcraft. She has had angry times in her life but who wouldnt consider having your husband commit adultery and you find out be a tough time?Just because of this does not even begin to be a valid reason for claiming Elizabeth Proctor to be a witch.

Evidence can clearly prove and state that Elizabeth Proctor is innocent on all accounts of accused witchcraft.Everything that has been considered evidence that she is a witch has been proved wrong. The poppet that Mary Warren sewed and gave to her was claimed by Abigail to be a voodoo doll and that her stab wound was from the stab wound on the doll with the pin, when the pin wound wasnt even in the same spot of the doll as the wound on Abigails body was.How could it be possible that Elizabeth Proctor was performing witchcraft and using the doll to inflict the wound upon Abigail when the wounds dont even match up?Also, Mary Warren confessed to having sewed the poppet herself and given it to Elizabeth as a gift and that Elizabeth never kept it and Abigail took it herself and placed the needle in it to make it seem as though Elizabeth Proctor took the doll and used it to harm her.

Elizabeth Proctor is a Christian woman and has her own bible and knows the ten commandments by heart.Ask yourself what sort of witch would go to church, read the bible, and memorize and live her live by the ten commandments?Elizabeth even forgave her husband after he broke one of the ten commandments and committed adultery. She didnt act vengeful and hateful towards him.Of course there was still tension between them, but that is expected. She still did forgive him which takes a lot of spirit that most people wouldnt have and enough love for her husband to believe that he was truly sorry and put her faith in him again.

Her husband, John Proctor, who is likely to know her better than most people said She never lied, she can not. This shows that he believes that Elizabeth Proctor can not by her nature tell a lie and is always committed to telling the truth and never keeping a secret from people.John Proctor has known Elizabeth better and longer than Abigail and all the other accusing her of witchcraft which makes him liable to be telling the truth when he is testifying.

If you think I am one, then I say there are none. (p.70) is what Elizabeth said when she was accused of witchcraft. She says that if of all people she is suspected of witchcraft then there just has to be no witches if she is the most suspicious of it and she knows for a fact inside that she is not a witch.

Out of all the people in the town that are more suspicious and more likely to be a witch, Elizabeth has been picked to be tried for witchcraft. If she is really the most suspected of it in town than there must be no witches at all in town because Elizabeth can be clearly proved with extinuating facts and evidence that she is not a witch but a Christian woman who lives by the Bible and the ten commandments and has never practiced witchcraft in her life.If Elizabeth shall be hanged for this, every last person in the town shall be hanged right next to her, for they are just as guilty as she is.

The Harry Potter phenomenon has taken the world by storm. The magical and mystery aspects of the serious has left many spell bounded but others outraged. The five book series has caused a protest among many Christian schools and religious organizations. The idea of making wizardry and witchcraft appealing to a young audience and promoting witchcraft as normal has sparked conflict between religious organizations and Scholastic, which publishes books for school markets.

The five book series will not reach the library shelves of the Marantha Christian College in Doveton because of the school policy on fantasy.

"The Potter books portray witchcraft as normal," says the principal. "It's a problem because as Christians we would say witchcraft and that kind of thing is not good, and yet Rowling portrays is as being good." (Christian school bans Potter books(July00))

But Scholastic said that it's Harry Potter series teaches children about right and wrong, "We're proud to publish the Harry Potter books," spokeswoman Judy Corman said. "We think they're about good and evil and we don't believe in censorship," (Judge orders Harry Potter back on Arkansas shelves (April 4 00))

Censorship Issues have been a big thing in the past. This year is the 70th Anniversary of the Nazi book burning. The book-burning took place just months after the Nazis took power in 1. The SA cordoned off the main courtyard of Berlin's Humboldt University, stacking high piles of books by Jewish, communist, or 'degenerate' authors, and then setting light to them.

This is the approach that a Church in Pittsburgh is taking.

The congregation of a church in suburban Pittsburgh gathered around a bonfire on the 4th of May to burn Harry Potter books, Disney videos, rock CDs and literature from other religions, purging their lives of things they felt stood between them and their faith.

The church has a regular Sunday evening service, which does not include a bonfire. But this week the congregation wanted to do a little more, and 5 people brought books, CD's and tapes that they felt were not in keeping with their faith.

"We believe that Harry Potter promotes sorcery, witchcraft-type things, the paranormal, things that are against God," Bender said. "That is really bad."

A spokeswoman for Scholastic, the publisher of the books, said they are more about a child who

feels powerless in the world understanding that he can take some control of his life. She said the

message sent by burning books is more dangerous than any fable about sorcery could be.

"I think burning books is shameful." Scholastic spokeswoman Judy Corman said. "The message is very clear by inference. I think he's saying something very strong."(ABCNEWS - Purging Flame (00))

Are some religions so insecure that they will not let their children read a fantasy novel? Are we going to have to go back to our old ways and burn every book that is about Parallel worlds and anything out of the ordinary?

For that small population that claims that the books are evil, too bad for them. More than 10 million copies of the book have been printed in at least 55 languages. (Judge orders Harry Potter back on Arkansas shelves (April 4 00))

So surely the world wants to read the Harry Potter books, not ban them.

The painter William Hogarth satirized many of the social follies of the

eighteenth century which in these two painting depicts alcoholism, and the pros of

choosing beer over gin. In the first painting Gin Lane Hogarth depicts therampant alcoholism that plagued the city. While in the other companion painting

Beer Street Hogarth illustrates a bustling metropolis that is that not only doingwell as far as economics but also in literacy and the arts. In the two companion

paintings Gin Lane and Beer Street Hogart clearly conveys his views of how gincan lead to the destruction of a society and how beer can lead to the construction

of society.

In looking at these two painting the first object that strikes the eye is the

people. In Gin Lane the people are illustrated as being dressed in rags and verythin probably suffering from starvation as seen with the man taking the dog s

bone, and also in the man who is sitting down passed out and the end of the steps.

This is a direct result of people spending all of their money on their next cup of

gin. They are also suffering from disease as seen with the woman in who is

dropping her baby has ulcerated legs. Everyone looks as if they are drunk, passed

out, or hungover. While in the painting Beer Street everyone is dressed well and isvery plump which is a sign that they are well fed and are prosperous. They are

not plagued by disease and seem very happy with life and what it brings.

The next element that comes to one s eye is what these people are doing. In

Gin Lane people are rioting at the distiller in order to get more gin. A woman is soengulfed in her drunken state that her baby falls; while other people are seen

trying to pawn items in order to buy more gin. In the back of the painting people

can be are seen as putting a body into a casket; while a dead body hangs from the

top of an old abandoned building. On the other hand people in the painting BeerStreet everyone has some sort of reading material and one man is painting apicture. Also someone is being carried by carriage which is an indicator of wealth.

The women in the picture are carrying fresh fish and vegetables which reiterates

the fact that people are well fed, and in the background the expansion of a

building is taking place.

The final element that strikes one s eye is that of the buildings. In Gin Laneall the buildings are falling to ruin due to neglect. The only buildings that are

standing are the pawnbroker, distiller, and the undertaker. This clearly conveys

what the excessive use of gin can do to a society. On the other end of the spectrum

on Beer Street we see that all the buildings are intact except for that of thepawnbroker. Some of the buildings are even undergoing expansion for this growing

city. The pawnbroker s building is broken down due to the fact that he isn t

getting any business which is a direct cause from the people not needing to buy

gin.

In the two paintings by William Hogarth he conveys his attitude towards

the growing social problem of alcoholism and how to resolve it. By using his skill

in art he is able to ascertain this goal and satirize one of his times many problems

without writing down a single word. In Hogarth s two companion paintings GinLane and Beer Street he contrasts the effects on society by two different alcoholicbeverages and illustrates that beer is the way toward societal reform.

The radio in the rental car was playing Scar Tissue, and the rain was tapping lightly on the windshield. It was spring break in Kauai, and I was on vacation with my friend Burt and his family. We pulled up to a surf spot outside of Hanalei Bay and unloaded the boards. We changed into our board shorts, slathered on the sunscreen, and darted across the sand. The sun was starting to break through the clouds and the water felt like a Jacuzzi.Burt and I paddled out past the shore break and into the line up.We were typical 14 year olds from Southern California, we surfed when we could get a ride to the beach, and that was not often. However this made no difference to us, every three-foot ankle-slapper we rode was recounted as a ten-foot barrel. We didn't mind that our boards were made of sponge, often associated with beginners. What mattered is that we were in the water. On this particular day we had an audience.

As Burt and I sat on our boards, something drew our attention away from the horizon.Back on shore a van had just arrived with a precious cargo.A local girls surf team piled out of the van in their skimpy bathing suits. Our jaws dropped in disbelief as they began to paddle in our direction.I immediately sucked in my stomach and tried to flex my non-existent muscles. They looked as though they were our age, and their sun bleached hair, and tan skin put us in a trance. We began fighting for waves, seeking every chance to show our skills, and impress them. After taking a bad spill I found my way back to girls. As a sat and waited for the next big wave, I noticed that I had attracted some attention.I glanced over at one of the girls, and noticed a smile across her face. She had long dark hair, and her dark skin was that of a native Hawaiian.Encouraged by her frequent staring, I paddled hard for the very next wave, trying to show another sample of myself to the smiling girl.

When I returned she was still smiling, I tried to look as macho as I could, flexing, and slicking my hair back."Man these girls are hot!" Burt whispered to me.I remember agreeing with Burt, but upon reflection, every girl in a bikini is hot to an 8th grader. After a couple of minutes I found myself staring at the dark-haired girl, her eyes caught mine and I immediately looked down.I was beginning to get excited, I was convinced that she had a thing for me.I began to think how I would start a conversation with her.Maybe tell her about how I'm from Los Angeles.Maybe she would be curious if I knew movie stars.I decided that I had an advantage working the foreign angle.I was just about ready to make my move when an embarrassing moment was burned into my memory forever. As I stared down at my board, I noticed something odd about my shorts.Suddenly a groan of mortification came from my gut.The shorts that I had inherited from my brother decided to show their age that day.It seemed as though my previous wipeout had produced a long tear in my shorts. The rip was right along the stitch that covered my crotch.I had exposed myself, and it was then that I knew why the smiling girl was smiling.I caught the very next wave to shore, longing for a towel.

Gender Influences

"To have a voice is to be human. To have something to say is to be a person. But speaking depends on listening sand being heard; it is an intensely relational act."Gilligan has found that women and men use fundamentally different approaches.Since men have dominated the discussion of moral theory, women's perspective is often not taken seriously, and is considered to be "less developed" and "sophisticated" There are stages that Gilligan has outlined in the text. These include a selfish stage, a belief in conventional morality, and the post conventional.

At an early age females learn to care for others and that selfishness is wrong. We learn that it is also morally wrong to ignore our own interest as it is to ignore the interests and well beings of others. This is shown by the way we connect with others. As women we have a sense of nurturing that is not prevalent in the average male.Men have taken on the role of the dominator. While women are labeled as caretakers. The one factor that emerges consistently in women is the ability to care. While men, the factor that emerges is more to respect the rights of others and "to protect from interference the rights to life and self-fulfillment". Gilligan also states that "womens insistence on care is at first self-critical rather than self-protective, while men initially conceive obligation to others negatively in terms of noninterference."This is used largely in the decision making difference between men and women. If there is a problem women are likely to face this problem while considering the best interest of both parties. Now, it is not to say that men are selfish or less caring, they are just more apt to do that which is in their own or best interest.Because of this, men aren't as sensitive to the needs of others, do to the fact that they put feelings aside because they feel it will give fair justice to the cause.

A positive consequence of this is that men can make decisions easier than women. They are able to look at the problem and the problem alone. While women are quicker to think of how this decision will effect those involved and others. This does not handicap our ability to make good decisions, yet it may take us longer to reach this decision.

Order College Papers on Gender Influences

This leads us to the next question, does this impact leadership? In my opinion it does not.I feel that women are just as capable as men to come to the best conclusion for any given topic. There are many strong women in the work force and recently there have been more in politics. Many men view it as impossible for a woman to hold a political office. They view women as too sensitive of beings to judge or determine something as important as initiating a war or telling an entire country that their lives or the lives of their loved ones are at stake.Again, the average women may have difficulty in do this, but not all women.

To a certain extent gender does influence decision -making because of the different approaches men and women take due to the nature of self, but I disagree with the fact that it plays a role in leadership.A good leader comes from within. It is someone who has the knowledge and the capability to lead.I do not believe that it is determined by anything other than that."The failure to see the different reality of women's lives and to hear the differences in their voices stems in part form the assumption that there is a single mode of social experience and interpretation."

Al Ghazzali A Liberal Education

A liberal arts education seeks to open one's mind to the true meaning of life itself and encourages one to contemplate the truth and understanding of human realities, which is what Al-Ghazzali set out to do after years of being an educator of religious sciences.Having a hunger for knowledge was part of his nature from an early age and as he continued his studies it became evident to him that his faith, which is having confidence in justifying a belief without actually having proof, in knowledge was being challenged and he must prove to himself that what he believed to be true undoubtedly was.Just as a liberal education aims at making one go beyond what they are familiar with and search for other ways of doing things by leading one out of ignorance, Al-Ghazzali, too, was trying to reason, or justify his beliefs, by continuing to question his so called answers to what he thought to be true.

First, he set out to test his sense perception to see if he could make himself doubt the truths he believed to be real and his intellect-judge helped him with this process. After months of questioning his belief, God cured his unhealthy condition and his confidence in the certainty of the truths in question was restored. After restoring his confidence, Al-Ghazzali then decided to study the science of theology, which did not provide the answers he was looking for because to him, theology was not able to dispel the confusion that arises due to the views of different men.Realizing that his purpose was not to disparage theologians, Al-Ghazzali then started on the science of philosophy, which also was uneventful because after self educating himself he found that it was "deceitful and confusing" (Al-Ghazzali 175) because in his mind the Islamic philosophers had not devoted enough time and attention to studying the science of philosophy. After studying the sciences, Al-Ghazzali decided to study another method, mysticism, which sparked his interest because the mystics were men whose experiences were real and not just based on words.Through the mystics, he was able to ascertain that there was a difference between knowing truths and actually experiencing the truths that have guided him through life. His passion for knowledge and his self-torture can be related to a myth about such passions.

Camus' myth of Sisyphus can be related to Al-Ghazzali's struggles because both Sisyphus and Al-Ghazzali have a passion for discovering what they are capable of doing and how they can achieve their respective purposes in life even though they may fail at the end of the task at hand.Sisyphus kept rolling the rock up the hill only to see it fall down time after time but the mere fact that he kept doing it was enough for him to feel that he achieved something in his life and the same can be said for Al-Ghazzali because he, too, regardless of failure, kept on his path for the pursuit of the truth and the knowledge he thought to be true through his faith and reasoning. For it is in a liberal education that one can explore the true meaning of knowledge while contemplating the truth about life, the human ideas of one's faith and the reasoning behind what is undoubtedly true.Write my Essay on Al Ghazzali: A Liberal Education for me
