A point of view in which a person is taking can change the way someone feels about the person or event that is being described. By the bias and stance the narrator has, characters or events can be changed in their relevance, importance, or relationship to the main idea by the narrator of a story. In Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, having the point of view seen through Lucie Manette's eyes would have dramatically changed the book for the better involving her tone and role as "the golden thread".

Lucie is often referred to as the golden thread in the novel because she connects many characters that otherwise would seem unrelated. For instance, she was the sole reason that Sydney Carton spoke with Charles Darnay several times after the trial. With many of the male characters being attraction to "the golden thread", this alias could also be taken as a physical trait, which she was known for as being very beautiful. The desire to be with Lucie Manette allowed for interaction between people such as Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton that would have a strong impact on the benevolent end to a book based on the French Revolution.

Lucie's light to the situation and compassion could have helped in the times of darkness and despair that surrounded the French Revolution. The whole story seems tragic and barbaric, but Lucie "recalling people to life" such as her father and her husband which balanced the hate and anguish of the other characters. While it may be occasionally nice to hear a nonbiased point of view in a novel, stories such as these thrive on the emotions involved with love and relationships that are a large part of the entire reason for the story. The narrator is anonymous and can be thought of as Dickens himself. The narrator is also omniscientsupplying historical context to the events that occur, but seemingly involved as merely an outsider looking in.

Understanding Lucie's feelings about everyone and her reaction and thoughts about Sydney Carton's sacrifice seemed important, but they were not mentioned thoroughly.Much of the reason for having stories that involve love and sacrifice in a time of greed, hatred, and chaos are to show the humanity and emotion that may seem absent from the events of the French Revolution. Very little is talked about in terms of her emotions. It was always one-sided conversations talking about how certain characters had a love for Lucie, but it was impossible to tell whether she even noticed that person.Sydney Carton was one of those people, and even in his final sacrifice in giving his life for a person that he loathed for Lucie's sake, much of her feelings of gratitude, admiration, and newfound esteem in Carton were not mentioned.

Cheap College Papers on A Tale of Two Cities Point of View

Lucie Manette's powerful influence on all of the other characters could have been more closely relatable, had she been the narrator. With her role as "the golden thread" she seems an obvious choice for the person to tell the story because she is the person to bring the story together. Putting the novel in Lucie's point of view with her tone may have significantly changed the readers' opinions of the novel because of the humanity found within the story about the French Revolution.

Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Elizabeth Proctor, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Elizabeth Proctor paper at affordable prices with !I believe strongly that Elizabeth Proctor is innocent and believe that there is evidence upon evidence that can prove her innocence to the court and all the people who doubt her innocence.Elizabeth Proctor has never done anything that can be construed as witchcraft. She has had angry times in her life but who wouldnt consider having your husband commit adultery and you find out be a tough time?Just because of this does not even begin to be a valid reason for claiming Elizabeth Proctor to be a witch.

Evidence can clearly prove and state that Elizabeth Proctor is innocent on all accounts of accused witchcraft.Everything that has been considered evidence that she is a witch has been proved wrong. The poppet that Mary Warren sewed and gave to her was claimed by Abigail to be a voodoo doll and that her stab wound was from the stab wound on the doll with the pin, when the pin wound wasnt even in the same spot of the doll as the wound on Abigails body was.How could it be possible that Elizabeth Proctor was performing witchcraft and using the doll to inflict the wound upon Abigail when the wounds dont even match up?Also, Mary Warren confessed to having sewed the poppet herself and given it to Elizabeth as a gift and that Elizabeth never kept it and Abigail took it herself and placed the needle in it to make it seem as though Elizabeth Proctor took the doll and used it to harm her.

Elizabeth Proctor is a Christian woman and has her own bible and knows the ten commandments by heart.Ask yourself what sort of witch would go to church, read the bible, and memorize and live her live by the ten commandments?Elizabeth even forgave her husband after he broke one of the ten commandments and committed adultery. She didnt act vengeful and hateful towards him.Of course there was still tension between them, but that is expected. She still did forgive him which takes a lot of spirit that most people wouldnt have and enough love for her husband to believe that he was truly sorry and put her faith in him again.

Her husband, John Proctor, who is likely to know her better than most people said She never lied, she can not. This shows that he believes that Elizabeth Proctor can not by her nature tell a lie and is always committed to telling the truth and never keeping a secret from people.John Proctor has known Elizabeth better and longer than Abigail and all the other accusing her of witchcraft which makes him liable to be telling the truth when he is testifying.

If you think I am one, then I say there are none. (p.70) is what Elizabeth said when she was accused of witchcraft. She says that if of all people she is suspected of witchcraft then there just has to be no witches if she is the most suspicious of it and she knows for a fact inside that she is not a witch.

Out of all the people in the town that are more suspicious and more likely to be a witch, Elizabeth has been picked to be tried for witchcraft. If she is really the most suspected of it in town than there must be no witches at all in town because Elizabeth can be clearly proved with extinuating facts and evidence that she is not a witch but a Christian woman who lives by the Bible and the ten commandments and has never practiced witchcraft in her life.If Elizabeth shall be hanged for this, every last person in the town shall be hanged right next to her, for they are just as guilty as she is.

The Harry Potter phenomenon has taken the world by storm. The magical and mystery aspects of the serious has left many spell bounded but others outraged. The five book series has caused a protest among many Christian schools and religious organizations. The idea of making wizardry and witchcraft appealing to a young audience and promoting witchcraft as normal has sparked conflict between religious organizations and Scholastic, which publishes books for school markets.

The five book series will not reach the library shelves of the Marantha Christian College in Doveton because of the school policy on fantasy.

"The Potter books portray witchcraft as normal," says the principal. "It's a problem because as Christians we would say witchcraft and that kind of thing is not good, and yet Rowling portrays is as being good." (Christian school bans Potter books(July00))

But Scholastic said that it's Harry Potter series teaches children about right and wrong, "We're proud to publish the Harry Potter books," spokeswoman Judy Corman said. "We think they're about good and evil and we don't believe in censorship," (Judge orders Harry Potter back on Arkansas shelves (April 4 00))

Censorship Issues have been a big thing in the past. This year is the 70th Anniversary of the Nazi book burning. The book-burning took place just months after the Nazis took power in 1. The SA cordoned off the main courtyard of Berlin's Humboldt University, stacking high piles of books by Jewish, communist, or 'degenerate' authors, and then setting light to them.

This is the approach that a Church in Pittsburgh is taking.

The congregation of a church in suburban Pittsburgh gathered around a bonfire on the 4th of May to burn Harry Potter books, Disney videos, rock CDs and literature from other religions, purging their lives of things they felt stood between them and their faith.

The church has a regular Sunday evening service, which does not include a bonfire. But this week the congregation wanted to do a little more, and 5 people brought books, CD's and tapes that they felt were not in keeping with their faith.

"We believe that Harry Potter promotes sorcery, witchcraft-type things, the paranormal, things that are against God," Bender said. "That is really bad."

A spokeswoman for Scholastic, the publisher of the books, said they are more about a child who

feels powerless in the world understanding that he can take some control of his life. She said the

message sent by burning books is more dangerous than any fable about sorcery could be.

"I think burning books is shameful." Scholastic spokeswoman Judy Corman said. "The message is very clear by inference. I think he's saying something very strong."(ABCNEWS - Purging Flame (00))

Are some religions so insecure that they will not let their children read a fantasy novel? Are we going to have to go back to our old ways and burn every book that is about Parallel worlds and anything out of the ordinary?

For that small population that claims that the books are evil, too bad for them. More than 10 million copies of the book have been printed in at least 55 languages. (Judge orders Harry Potter back on Arkansas shelves (April 4 00))

So surely the world wants to read the Harry Potter books, not ban them.

The painter William Hogarth satirized many of the social follies of the

eighteenth century which in these two painting depicts alcoholism, and the pros of

choosing beer over gin. In the first painting Gin Lane Hogarth depicts therampant alcoholism that plagued the city. While in the other companion painting

Beer Street Hogarth illustrates a bustling metropolis that is that not only doingwell as far as economics but also in literacy and the arts. In the two companion

Cheap College Papers on Gin n' Juice

paintings Gin Lane and Beer Street Hogart clearly conveys his views of how gincan lead to the destruction of a society and how beer can lead to the construction

of society.

In looking at these two painting the first object that strikes the eye is the

people. In Gin Lane the people are illustrated as being dressed in rags and verythin probably suffering from starvation as seen with the man taking the dog s

bone, and also in the man who is sitting down passed out and the end of the steps.

This is a direct result of people spending all of their money on their next cup of

gin. They are also suffering from disease as seen with the woman in who is

dropping her baby has ulcerated legs. Everyone looks as if they are drunk, passed

out, or hungover. While in the painting Beer Street everyone is dressed well and isvery plump which is a sign that they are well fed and are prosperous. They are

not plagued by disease and seem very happy with life and what it brings.

The next element that comes to one s eye is what these people are doing. In

Gin Lane people are rioting at the distiller in order to get more gin. A woman is soengulfed in her drunken state that her baby falls; while other people are seen

trying to pawn items in order to buy more gin. In the back of the painting people

can be are seen as putting a body into a casket; while a dead body hangs from the

top of an old abandoned building. On the other hand people in the painting BeerStreet everyone has some sort of reading material and one man is painting apicture. Also someone is being carried by carriage which is an indicator of wealth.

The women in the picture are carrying fresh fish and vegetables which reiterates

the fact that people are well fed, and in the background the expansion of a

building is taking place.

The final element that strikes one s eye is that of the buildings. In Gin Laneall the buildings are falling to ruin due to neglect. The only buildings that are

standing are the pawnbroker, distiller, and the undertaker. This clearly conveys

what the excessive use of gin can do to a society. On the other end of the spectrum

on Beer Street we see that all the buildings are intact except for that of thepawnbroker. Some of the buildings are even undergoing expansion for this growing

city. The pawnbroker s building is broken down due to the fact that he isn t

getting any business which is a direct cause from the people not needing to buy

gin.

In the two paintings by William Hogarth he conveys his attitude towards

the growing social problem of alcoholism and how to resolve it. By using his skill

in art he is able to ascertain this goal and satirize one of his times many problems

without writing down a single word. In Hogarth s two companion paintings GinLane and Beer Street he contrasts the effects on society by two different alcoholicbeverages and illustrates that beer is the way toward societal reform.

The radio in the rental car was playing Scar Tissue, and the rain was tapping lightly on the windshield. It was spring break in Kauai, and I was on vacation with my friend Burt and his family. We pulled up to a surf spot outside of Hanalei Bay and unloaded the boards. We changed into our board shorts, slathered on the sunscreen, and darted across the sand. The sun was starting to break through the clouds and the water felt like a Jacuzzi.Burt and I paddled out past the shore break and into the line up.We were typical 14 year olds from Southern California, we surfed when we could get a ride to the beach, and that was not often. However this made no difference to us, every three-foot ankle-slapper we rode was recounted as a ten-foot barrel. We didn't mind that our boards were made of sponge, often associated with beginners. What mattered is that we were in the water. On this particular day we had an audience.

As Burt and I sat on our boards, something drew our attention away from the horizon.Back on shore a van had just arrived with a precious cargo.A local girls surf team piled out of the van in their skimpy bathing suits. Our jaws dropped in disbelief as they began to paddle in our direction.I immediately sucked in my stomach and tried to flex my non-existent muscles. They looked as though they were our age, and their sun bleached hair, and tan skin put us in a trance. We began fighting for waves, seeking every chance to show our skills, and impress them. After taking a bad spill I found my way back to girls. As a sat and waited for the next big wave, I noticed that I had attracted some attention.I glanced over at one of the girls, and noticed a smile across her face. She had long dark hair, and her dark skin was that of a native Hawaiian.Encouraged by her frequent staring, I paddled hard for the very next wave, trying to show another sample of myself to the smiling girl.

When I returned she was still smiling, I tried to look as macho as I could, flexing, and slicking my hair back."Man these girls are hot!" Burt whispered to me.I remember agreeing with Burt, but upon reflection, every girl in a bikini is hot to an 8th grader. After a couple of minutes I found myself staring at the dark-haired girl, her eyes caught mine and I immediately looked down.I was beginning to get excited, I was convinced that she had a thing for me.I began to think how I would start a conversation with her.Maybe tell her about how I'm from Los Angeles.Maybe she would be curious if I knew movie stars.I decided that I had an advantage working the foreign angle.I was just about ready to make my move when an embarrassing moment was burned into my memory forever. As I stared down at my board, I noticed something odd about my shorts.Suddenly a groan of mortification came from my gut.The shorts that I had inherited from my brother decided to show their age that day.It seemed as though my previous wipeout had produced a long tear in my shorts. The rip was right along the stitch that covered my crotch.I had exposed myself, and it was then that I knew why the smiling girl was smiling.I caught the very next wave to shore, longing for a towel.

Gender Influences

"To have a voice is to be human. To have something to say is to be a person. But speaking depends on listening sand being heard; it is an intensely relational act."Gilligan has found that women and men use fundamentally different approaches.Since men have dominated the discussion of moral theory, women's perspective is often not taken seriously, and is considered to be "less developed" and "sophisticated" There are stages that Gilligan has outlined in the text. These include a selfish stage, a belief in conventional morality, and the post conventional.

At an early age females learn to care for others and that selfishness is wrong. We learn that it is also morally wrong to ignore our own interest as it is to ignore the interests and well beings of others. This is shown by the way we connect with others. As women we have a sense of nurturing that is not prevalent in the average male.Men have taken on the role of the dominator. While women are labeled as caretakers. The one factor that emerges consistently in women is the ability to care. While men, the factor that emerges is more to respect the rights of others and "to protect from interference the rights to life and self-fulfillment". Gilligan also states that "womens insistence on care is at first self-critical rather than self-protective, while men initially conceive obligation to others negatively in terms of noninterference."This is used largely in the decision making difference between men and women. If there is a problem women are likely to face this problem while considering the best interest of both parties. Now, it is not to say that men are selfish or less caring, they are just more apt to do that which is in their own or best interest.Because of this, men aren't as sensitive to the needs of others, do to the fact that they put feelings aside because they feel it will give fair justice to the cause.

A positive consequence of this is that men can make decisions easier than women. They are able to look at the problem and the problem alone. While women are quicker to think of how this decision will effect those involved and others. This does not handicap our ability to make good decisions, yet it may take us longer to reach this decision.

Order College Papers on Gender Influences

This leads us to the next question, does this impact leadership? In my opinion it does not.I feel that women are just as capable as men to come to the best conclusion for any given topic. There are many strong women in the work force and recently there have been more in politics. Many men view it as impossible for a woman to hold a political office. They view women as too sensitive of beings to judge or determine something as important as initiating a war or telling an entire country that their lives or the lives of their loved ones are at stake.Again, the average women may have difficulty in do this, but not all women.

To a certain extent gender does influence decision -making because of the different approaches men and women take due to the nature of self, but I disagree with the fact that it plays a role in leadership.A good leader comes from within. It is someone who has the knowledge and the capability to lead.I do not believe that it is determined by anything other than that."The failure to see the different reality of women's lives and to hear the differences in their voices stems in part form the assumption that there is a single mode of social experience and interpretation."

Al Ghazzali A Liberal Education

A liberal arts education seeks to open one's mind to the true meaning of life itself and encourages one to contemplate the truth and understanding of human realities, which is what Al-Ghazzali set out to do after years of being an educator of religious sciences.Having a hunger for knowledge was part of his nature from an early age and as he continued his studies it became evident to him that his faith, which is having confidence in justifying a belief without actually having proof, in knowledge was being challenged and he must prove to himself that what he believed to be true undoubtedly was.Just as a liberal education aims at making one go beyond what they are familiar with and search for other ways of doing things by leading one out of ignorance, Al-Ghazzali, too, was trying to reason, or justify his beliefs, by continuing to question his so called answers to what he thought to be true.

First, he set out to test his sense perception to see if he could make himself doubt the truths he believed to be real and his intellect-judge helped him with this process. After months of questioning his belief, God cured his unhealthy condition and his confidence in the certainty of the truths in question was restored. After restoring his confidence, Al-Ghazzali then decided to study the science of theology, which did not provide the answers he was looking for because to him, theology was not able to dispel the confusion that arises due to the views of different men.Realizing that his purpose was not to disparage theologians, Al-Ghazzali then started on the science of philosophy, which also was uneventful because after self educating himself he found that it was "deceitful and confusing" (Al-Ghazzali 175) because in his mind the Islamic philosophers had not devoted enough time and attention to studying the science of philosophy. After studying the sciences, Al-Ghazzali decided to study another method, mysticism, which sparked his interest because the mystics were men whose experiences were real and not just based on words.Through the mystics, he was able to ascertain that there was a difference between knowing truths and actually experiencing the truths that have guided him through life. His passion for knowledge and his self-torture can be related to a myth about such passions.

Camus' myth of Sisyphus can be related to Al-Ghazzali's struggles because both Sisyphus and Al-Ghazzali have a passion for discovering what they are capable of doing and how they can achieve their respective purposes in life even though they may fail at the end of the task at hand.Sisyphus kept rolling the rock up the hill only to see it fall down time after time but the mere fact that he kept doing it was enough for him to feel that he achieved something in his life and the same can be said for Al-Ghazzali because he, too, regardless of failure, kept on his path for the pursuit of the truth and the knowledge he thought to be true through his faith and reasoning. For it is in a liberal education that one can explore the true meaning of knowledge while contemplating the truth about life, the human ideas of one's faith and the reasoning behind what is undoubtedly true.Write my Essay on Al Ghazzali: A Liberal Education for me

Safety-related Outputs

If a fault affects an output configured for a safety-related signal, the

faulty output is forced to the safe state (i.e. 0). The 0 value is

applied to the process, regardless of the value calculated by the

application program.

Depending on the predefined effects of the fault,

a single channel, a group of channels or all channels of an entire

module are forced to 0.

If a fault is detected for one output channel, that channel is

forced to 0. If a fault is detected for two or more channels

within a single output group, all channels of the entire group are

forced to 0.

If an entire group of safety-related output channels is regarded faulty,

the second fault timer is started.

If all groups at the same output module are faulty, the entire module is

regarded faulty.

If an entire safety-related output module is regarded faulty, the Central

Part that controls the affected output module will trip. If the module is

located in a single I/O section, the entire FSC system will trip.

Digital Outputs

If a safety-related digital output channel is over-loaded or shorted, the output will switch off.

If a second fault in that output group is detected, all channels of the entire group are

forced to 0.

A fault on a safety-related output will generate an FSC system fault, and

remain de-energized until a fault reset is given.

Non-safety-related outputs switch on again after a delay of several

hundreds of milliseconds. A system fault is only

generated if the output is of a fail-safe type.

Analog Outputs

An open-circuit across a safety-related analog output will cause that output to be forced to '0'. An FSC system fault will be generated, and the output will remain de-energized and defect until a fault reset is given.

A short-circuit across a safety-related analog output will cause the output to be forced to '0'. This however, will not render the output defective. When the short-circuit is removed, the output value is applied to the process as calculated by the application program. A fault reset is not necessary.

Non-safety-related Outputs

If a fault affects an output configured for a non safety-related signal,

the fault is only reported. The output value is applied to the process as

calculated by the application program as a result of the faulty module.

Order your September 11, 2001 paper at affordable prices with cheap custom writing service! Two years ago on September 11, 001 my life changed. My thoughts of war and my feeling of security were in a whole new perspective. Who would have thought, planes would crash into the largest buildings in New York, the Twin Towers. Or a plane would crash into the pentagon in Washington, D.C. The world we know is totally different; security, economy, and trust with other country's have totally changed.

I can remember September 11, 001 like it was yesterday. I was in Mrs.Moore's, American History class in school as a Junior in high school. All of a sudden someone told her turn on the tv and news flashes were scrolling across the screen. Every channel was showing the planes going into the buildings. At the time it seemed not true, all I could think was it was not real. As the day went on, we watched closely, as we saw New Yorker's reactions and more information on the stories, as well as the pentagon getting hit and the plane that was hijacked. My reaction to all of this was how bad the victim's family's must feel, and how could someone be so mean to kill all those people. The president later came on to make his speech, he said the person responsible would be caught and would be punished, the speech was watched everywhere. President Bush gave the US and since of relief to know that everything was be taken care of.

Since the attacks the world has almost turned different. Security has totally increased making sure safety comes first. The lines at the airport take twice as long, the walks through the metal detectors are much more sensitive, and taking off your shoes is a precaution to making sure you have no bombs hidden in them. Becoming a citizen is much more difficult as well as getting certain jobs because of background checks. The economy has gone down as well. The gas prices have gone up as well as unemployment, and who knows when the stock market will do. Many people lost their retirement because it was invested in the stock market. All these changes affect lives differently loss of jobs, tighter budgetsand cutbacks. Many big companies and malls have been hurt because the economy is so low and know one can afford to blow money.

Terrorism has made our country on alert. The person or people responsible have still not been caught. The fear of something like this happening again is possible such as; water contamination, bombing, threats and suicidal attacks will always be thought about. Every timeI walk on a plane I think could this be the plane used on the next attack on America? I also look around and judge people and ask myself does that look like the next most wanted face or someone that would kill people. The day of September 11, 001 will always be memorialized and thought of. Families and citizens will always remember the day.

Order College Papers on September 11, 2001

As I look back, I see the sad faces of victims' families, scared New Yorkers, tears of sad people and red, white and blue of the American flag. Even though the attacks were very gruesome, It brought our country together and showed that we could overcome terrorism. Many donations and contributionswere made to the victim's families and to people that were involved. The day will always be there, and even though I have moved passed it; security, trust and safety will always be a big issue today and in the future. The future will have a lot more safety precautions and more advanced criminal background searches. Now matter what cautions are taken a feeling of being unsafe will always be there.

It's safe to say that the most dangerous and/or infuriating drivers on the road these days are old people (The bastards). These are the fucks who dive 5 in a 55 with their blinker on for hours clogging up traffic for miles because everyone (including the assholes who normally box you in at 60 mph because they think that going 5 over the speed limit warrants driving in the passing lane) are trying to pass them. If these were there only driving flaws they possessed it wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately these twats randomly change lanes (for seemingly no reason at all) without looking and almost always have there break lights on. Most people (by most people I mean left wing pussy's) think these old shits should be allowed to drive (I know it's ridiculous) they justify this bullshit with statements like "teens are in more accidents" and "it's age discrimination". And right after you think they can't be any more full of shit they completely blindside you with this one "You can't take away the freedom of driving". Sigh... GOD DAMMIT YOU STUPID SONS OF BITCHES!!! Let's look at the flawed logic behind these arguments one by one.

Argument 1.) "Teens are in more accidents." Yes this is true most studies agree it's because of lack of experience. However this logic would suggest the old drivers (the ones with the most experience) would be the best drivers. This is very untrue meaning there is another factor or factors to consider.

Argument

Argument .)"You can't take away the freedom of driving."

It's really amazing (to me at least) but some assholes will still argue after hearing their lame arguments shot to hell. Normally I would tell them to fuck off and then proceed to stop their heart with a couple 500,000 volt bursts of well deserved stun gun goodness or at the least a sound kick to their nuts. But seeing as this is a written article I'll have to settle with real events where these evil murdering bastards (the old people not the assholes pay attention) take innocent lives.

July 18, 00an 86 year old democrat while fleeing the seen of a prior accident pulled onto a street market filled with people and once he realized the street was closed and filled with people he attempted to slam on the brakes however because of his confused and scared state he accidentally (according to him) stepped on the gas. Here is where it gets interesting he accidentally hit the gas peddle and held it down for two blocks hitting 54 people killing 10 and injuring many more (some of which were put into critical condition).

Late 18a car driven by a 76 year old woman hit and killed a 4 year old boy being pushed in a stroller by his grandmother

Mid 18Lodi a motorcycle cop and father of two young daughters was struck and killed while chasing a speeder by a car driven by a 86 year old man who pulled into his path

Unknown date- a 15 year old was killed when crossing a Santa Monica street by a 6 year old women who took the behind the wheel drivers test in 118.

These are just a few of the many instances where the old bastards have killed at least one person while conveniently remaining unharmed. Personally I think its time things changed once someone reaches the age of 75 they should lose their license some believe that the old bastards should be allowed to retest every year to keep their license. I disagree after the age of seventy five the time it takes to become unable drive safely (because of mental or physical reasons) occurs in a matter of months not years. So you can plainly see that these old shits need to be stopped before they kill any more innocent people and I have mount rockets to the front of my car and blow the fuckers of the road by myself.

In The Awakening, the sea symbolizes freedom and escape since it is a vast expanse that Edna can brave only when she is solitary. When in the water, Edna is reminded of the depth of the universe. In its subliminal entirety the sea represents the strength, glory, and the lonely horror of independence. As a reasonable prediction, Edna can be expected to eventually succumb to the temptation of the sea and lead a life of complete emotional and sexual freedom or die trying.

Through the juxtaposition of light and forbidden knowledge, Chopin illustrates to the reader Edna's apparent awareness of some mysterious and almost undetectable perception of the world. She begins to feel a strange light within her that shows her the way to dreams, to thoughtfulness, and to the shadowy anguish that brought her to tears the evening Lonce returned from the club. This light which elucidates can be looked upon as leading to the sea but is prohibited by the traditional social system. The reader in effect believes everyone so far except for Edna to be in the dark.

Moreover, Chopin exemplifies the appalling circumstances characterizing the present social convention in place during the time period.Chopin portrays such a world as "vague, tangled, chaotic, and exceedingly disturbing." As a result, such an atrocious environment most likely horrifies the reader. The author continues her condemnation of the system by revealing to the reader the difficulty of moving past such a consuming structure stating that "few of us ever" do.Furthermore, those who do eventually "perish in its tumult. This description of the world effectively isolates the readers and gives them a feeling that parallels that of the author's loathing view.

In addition, Chopin description of the sea's voice and its touch further her argument that independence is more satisfying then the torments of the current social system. When in the water, Edna is reminded of her own position as a human being within the depth of the universe. The sensuous sound of the surf constantly beckons and seduces Edna throughout the novel and especially within chapter 6. In contrast with the outside world, the voice of the sea is " inviting, never ceasing, seductive, and murmuring." Once in the water, the sea " enfolds the body in its sensuous touch."These positive connotations make Edna want to yield to its pleasures of sexual and emotional freedom instead of the traditional societal format. Therefore, the reader is allowed to see the reasons for Edna's probable submission to such fantasies. Waters associations with cleansing and baptism make it a symbol of rebirth. The sea, thus, also serves as a reminder to the reader of the fact that Ednas awakening is a rebirth of sorts.

In conclusion, the author effectively develops her belief that women should live life fully by exploring their desires. The expectations of tradition coupled with the limitations of law gave women of the late 1800s very few opportunities for individual expression, not to mention independence. Expected to perform their domestic duties and care for the health and happiness of their families, Victorian women were prevented from seeking the satisfaction of their own wants and needs. During her gradual awakening, Edna discovers her own identity and acknowledges her emotional and sexual desires through her understanding of the sea and its undesirable alternative.

Lord of the Flies

Pg 1

In 154, William Golding wrote the satirical novel The Lord of the Flies. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature, and his book has been printed over seven million times. The symbolisms portrayed in the novel are still being today. He uses the importance of civilization, the value of intellect, the potential for evil, and what the future may offer.Write your Lord of the Flies research paper

The boys establish very early on in the novel that ground rules must be made."I agree with Ralph. We've got to have rules and obey them." (P. 4) When Ralph and Jack agreed on things, everything was fine.Once Jack broke the rules, the society (the boys) broke down, and they turned to savages."Ralph launched himself like a cat; stabbed, snarling, with the spear, and the savage doubled up." (P. 15) Even Ralph, the one who was supposed to be civilized had turned into a savage. He was forced to turn animal like as the Lord of the Flies attacked him.The intellect on the island had gone in the blink of an eye.

A well working society is run by intellect and intelligence.Intellect is sometimes over-looked because the person is not "cool".Piggy was the smartest child on the island, but because he was overweight and had glasses, he was ignored and made fun of.If Piggy were as physically fit as Ralph or Jack, he definitely would have been chosen for leader. If Piggy had been chosen for leader, the final outcome of savagery would have been totally different.Piggy was described by the narrator as "…a bag of fat…." (P. 1)

Pg

The boys could not see past his looks, so Piggy's intelligence in a way went to waste. If society judges people strictly by looks, there is a potential for pure evil.

The Government is probably the most important thing to a society. In the beginning of the novel, the boys arrived civilized, and their first thought was to make ground rules. When rules are made, and they are disobeyed, punishment is to be done. With nobody to reinforce the rules, mayhem and chaos is to come.Evil was what over-came the boys, and the need to kill was among them."Kill the pig, cut her throat, spill her blood." (P. 6) This line shows how killing a pig gives the boys somewhat of an adrenalin rush.If people start looking at people for their intelligence and intellect, the future will promise a sense of peace.

Without a civilized society and a responsible government, the future will offer peace.Without these two things, mayhem and chaos will be the result. In the novel, Golding uses language to show how quickly civil environments can the chaotic. The future of the society also depends on who is in charge of the major powers, and it depends on the attitude of people toward others. The people are the only things that will have effect on the society in the future. If killing and the hate towards others are accepted, then society as a whole will break down.

Pg

William Golding has used his literature skills to write this Nobel Prize winning novel. He uses a form of satire that stresses violence and hatred to get the point across.Through the characters in the book, he teaches the readers about the importance of civilization, the value of intellect, the potential for evil, and what the future may offer.Making rules is a good first step when building a civil society, but with nobody to reinforce the rules, society will not be able to function. If the killing in society and hatred towards others is accepted, the world will slowly breakdown.Golding has taught people this through his novel in the hope of making people realizes how dangerous we are as human beings.

The Silent Musician

I went to the Getty Museum on Wednesday March 5.Not only does it contain thousands of pieces of artwork, the museum itself is a gorgeous work of art.Nestled in the hills of Malibu, one can get an amazing aerial view of the entire city of Los Angeles from the many balconies in the museum. The outside gardens and landscaping grounds are beautiful as well. The stream that turns into a stone waterfall and eventually ends up in a pool of water at the main plaza is sublime, adding to the quiet tranquility of the museum.

The piece of art that I choose to describe is the "Harpist." It is a marble statue,

14" by¾" wide. This piece originates from the Early Cycladic II, around 500 B.C. The individual in the carving itself is male, but not tremendously masculine, in that he is not incredibly athletic, and doesn't have a god-like physique. It is also to be noted that the harpist has no eyes or mouth and while both the hands and feet are present, incisions for digits appear only on the hands. This is due to the fact that he is a harpist, and could not do very much without the use of his fingers, thus showing that in the Cycladic culture, emphasis was not placed solely on one's body and their appearance.Since the Cycladic people left no written records, we have to read the artwork that they have left behind. It is apparent from this statue, that music must have been a large part of the Cycladic culture. To be able to make music and play an instrument was a wonderful gift. Not only could it be a source of entertainment, but music also helped them with their communicating. Being part of an aural culture, songs were sung that got passed down for probably hundreds of generations. Along with music came that other wonderful form of communication; dance. The harpist's head is tilting back slightly, almost as if he is singing. Of course, we have no way of knowing this, as he has no mouth.

The "Harpist" is a prime example of sculpture in the round. It has been reduced to its simple geometric rudiments. It is obvious however, that the man is a musician of sorts. He is sitting on a small four-legged stool, with his feet flat on the floor. One arm is out-stretched to balance the instrument on his lap and the other is used to pluck the strings of the instrument that we assume is a harp. This sculpture is free-standing. Although it has no base, it is able to stand up on its own.

One thing that interests me is the medium that was used to create the "Harpist." Island marble is found on the islands of Naxos and Paros, and it is that specific medium that was carved to produce this sculpture.Although the entire statue is made of the same marble, the texture seems smooth and polished in some areas, and in others it looks rough and gritty in others. An example of this is the bow of the harp. It looks as though it is about to break because of all the cracks and holes worn into it. But along the line of the thighs, upper torso, and arms, it seems strong and smooth. This is probably due to the weathering of the marble. The parts of the sculpture that are more thin, could not handle the abuse of wind and the sand that were so prevalent in the Cycladic people's home land.

The "Harpist," although unadorned, is a beautiful piece of artwork. It is in its simplicity that I believe it reveals a lot about the Cycladic people and their culture. It is as

though a written record wouldn't have been necessary. We can learn more than enoughabout the Cycladic culture by the unique and telling treasures that they leave behind.

"Parenthood"

Every person has their own personalities, making each of them unique. However, psychologists of yesterday and today have come up with theories to generalize the stages in which our personality is developed. In the movie, Parenthood, we see a large family, more specifically a grandmother, her son and his wife, their four kids, and their separate parts of this large family, all with their different personalities. But some stand out more than the others do. And each has their own separate situations in their part of the family. The movie goes on to show each problem the family does have and how they all eventually work out in the end.

Kevin Buckman is one of the children of one of the four Buckman siblings. He is nine years old and the oldest of three (four at the end of the movie). Kevin seemed to have one of the larger problems with his personality. His teachers claimed he needed special needs and couldn't be in public school anymore. He would get very upset over the smallest of issues. And was terrified of being embarrassed. This could most relate to Erickson's stage Industry vs. Inferiority, where a child between the age of 6-11 has an ego-crisis. Meaning, the child, is either over confident or overly shy. Unfortunately, Kevin became overly shy. Kevin needed constant approval from his friends or any of the other kids at his school. If he didn't get it, he would become very upset. He would do anything to get the approval. If he wanted the coolest birthday cowboy, it was only because all the other kids thought it was cool.

Larry Buckman is the youngest of the four siblings. He surprised the family after a three-year hiatus with a new addition to the family. He then claimed that he had a new idea that would make him very rich very fast. What he really had in mind was borrowing money from his parents so he could gamble and hopefully get rich off of it. As most people in his state, he didn't. This can most relate to Freud's theory of personality, more specifically, an abundance of the "Id" factor. He would always speak of himself and how he needs money and never thought of how it would affect his family or even his own son. He was only out to satisfy himself. Also, Larry had an addiction that everyone, especially his father, saw was evident but he just kept on denying it. He had a gambling addiction. Which is another part of the "Id" in Freud's theory, denial.

Last would be Grandma Buckman, the oldest member of the entire family. She always seemed like the happiest of the family. She never had anything bad to say and always seemed to have a good time. Whether it be breathing in Helium and then talking at Kevin's birthday party or referring to life as one big roller-coaster ride, she always brought light to the Buckmans. A Theory that could describe her would be Erickson's theory Ego Integrity vs. Despair, which happens between the age of 65-death. In this stage of Erickson's theory, a man or a woman who is nearing death will start to wonder if their life has been fulfilled. I think the way Grandma acted throughout the movie, that she feels her life is complete. She created a family that all love each other very much. And she is very wise. She may not speak her philosophy in the most sophisticated of terms, but you can tell that she is smart. I think if you were to ask if her life is complete, she would say yes.

Personality is very unique in each individual. Some personalities are good, can make people laugh. Others can be very depressing. But all of them make the people we are today. The Buckman family is not different. They each have their own problems and also have deal with other members of their family's problems.

A young teenage girl dressed all in black turned the corner. She had chains hanging down the side of her black, baggy jeans. What's the first thought that went through your mind?Have you ever seen a nicely dressed young lady surrounded by a group of teenagers who have multiple piercings and green hair?Did you think that it was probably a group of thugs or even worse?Have you sat down and talked with a teenager lately? If so, you may have understood what he or she was talking about, but it's entirely possible that you did not. With having said all this, what do you think when you see teenagers today?Teenagers are stereotyped for many reasons. Some of the most common reasons are their appearance, their friends, and even the way they talk.

Crystal, my 16-year-old daughter, is obsessed with the color black. She always has been. 75% of her clothing is black, she has several bottles of black nail polish, and she even has two black cowboy hats. This in itself is not really a problem for us, but for other's it seems to be a major problem. For example, when she was in seventh grade at Snyder Junior High the assistant principal had a very low opinion of her. This was mainly due to the fact the she wore black all the time.It got so bad that she finally started accusing Crystal of being gothic and into devil worshipping. If she had really known her, there is no way that she could have ever thought that she was into anything like that. She just assumed this because of the way she dressed.

Crystal hasn't only been stereotyped because of the way she dresses, but also because of whom she chooses as her friends.Several of her friends have body piercings and strange hair colors.Although Crystal has light brown hair and no body piercings, when she is with her friends she is treated as a freak. One day Crystal was in Wal-Mart with two of her friends. They were in the jewelry department looking at watches. My daughter's watch had broken and she wanted to replace it.When she asked for assistance from the clerk, she was ignored.I don't know if it had anything to do with whom she was with or not.I do know that when I went back with her a couple of days later the same clerk who had previously ignored her helped her immediately.

Buy cheap Yeah, Right, Whatever! term paper

Sometimes teenager's conversation skills leave a lot to be desired.Crystal makes fairly good grades in her English class, but I don't see how.Her spoken English is atrocious. We understand her at home because we're used to the way she talks, but other's look at her as if she's from another planet. The bulk of her vocabulary consists of the words yea, whatever, so, and who cares.A simple question that requires a yes or no answer may get a response that is totally incomprehensible. This probably sounds totally unbelievable, but it's completely true.Hopefully, this is just a phase.I am sure that by the time she goes to college she'll actually us all that English that she has been taught.

After reading this paper, some would think that my daughter is nothing more than a "gothic gang-banger" who doesn't know how to speak proper English. This isn't the case, however. In reality she is a pretty good girl who attends church regularly, and never makes a failing grade.A person shouldn't be judged by their outward appearance, but should be judged by what's on the inside.Perhaps we should all think before making a judgment about someone. It could be that he or she is just like the "good" kid next door.

This essay is about how teenagers are stereotyped in today's society. It is already in MLA format. I made aon this particular essay.I hope it helps.

While many people believe there should be more gun control and the possibility of banning guns all together, I believe the gun control laws should not be changed. Although there are many reasons that may persuade people to choose to ban guns, I believe that there are several other reasons that lead to all the tragedies with guns in America. Banning guns is not an answer the gun problem in America, there are a few other things that could be done to stop gun violence. In this essay I will tell about why I believe gun control laws should not be changed.

After the many shootings in schools over the past two years, many people believe guns should be made illegal for civillians to posses or purchase guns. While this may make it difficult for minors, drug addicts, and people with mental deficiencies to get hold on a gun, The Constitution allows all citizens to possess arms to defend themselves, their families, and their property. However if guns were made illegal, there would still be people who would smuggel guns. If a burgular were to smuggle a gun in to someones home, that man or woman should be allowed to posses a gun to defend theirself.

And if guns were illegal, mostly only people who do not abide the law would smuggle them, leaving all the law-abiding citizens unarmed and more prone to attack with a gun.

Some people suggest making a longer waiting-period and deeper background check to purchase a gun would reduce the amount of violence with guns. While once again that would make it more difficult for minors, drug addicts, and people with mental deficiencies to obtain a gun, it would not prevent many people who wish to have a gun from getting one. Also, many people obtain guns from stealing it from another person, or buying it off a citizen who is unknowledgable or uncaring for the law, or the temperment of the buyer. Besides, if a person who is of age, and has a clear record wishes to buy a gun to be violent with it, there is no way of preventing him or her.Write your Should Gun Control Laws Be Changed research paper

Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce gun violence is correct. However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring up a rise in violence with other weapons.

Unfortunately, many people possess guns would should not posses one. However I do not see it feasible to strengthen guns laws. I believe that there should be stronger penalties for people who are caught with a gun illegally and stronger penalties for people who are or threaten violence with a gun. This would make people think twice about smuggling a gun, or carry them when they are not supposed to. This might also influence Congress to pass a law for a stronger background check on people purchasing a gun, which would satisfy both sides of this argument. A stronger penalty for gun offenders might cause the amount of violence without a gun to rise a small amount, people would still attempt to get a gun, because most people who commit a crime assume they can get away with it.

In conclusion, strengthening the gun control laws will not prevent murderers from murdering people, it will only make it more difficult. Although the system is stronger, people will beat it. The only way I see possible to lessen gun violence is to make stronger penalties for gun offenders.

Pretty Woman is one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time.Yet, few people seem to acknowledge the fact that Vivian Ward, played by Julia Roberts, was always a classy lady with morals and values, regardless of her physical appearance.Through the elaborate use of camera angles and shots, Vivian is seen, as she walks down Rodeo Drive in an elegant dress, as a socially acceptable lady with morals and values, although she has only changed her physical appearance. The scene of the movie when Vivian walks into the department store on Rodeo Drive, symbolizes the negative reflection that society has on material possessions, and presents the acceptance of Vivian into our disapproving culture.

The scene begins with a medium shot of Vivian walking down Rodeo Drive wearing an elegant, white dress, looking classy and sophisticated. As she walks, every man, dressed in business attire and carrying briefcases, turn to look and admire her beauty and poise. In this scene, Vivian is automatically transformed into an elegant woman, only because of a change in clothes and makeup.Society has moved her from the cheap, trashy hooker she was at the beginning of the movie, to a classy woman with dignity and morals.Yet, Vivian was always a woman with principles and values, even when she was a hooker. For example, Vivian always flosses her teeth because she says, "You shouldn't neglect your gums."Another example of Vivian being sophisticated, when she was still a hooker, is when she ties Edward's, played by Richard Gere, tie.She also says she "never kiss on the mouth."These few examples show that Vivian was the same elegant, classy lady at the beginning of the movie, as she became at toward the end.So, in the end, the only difference in Vivian's character was her change in appearance.

The camera zooms out and shows the viewer a full shot of Vivian walking. She is carrying two packages and a hat box in her right hand, while she holds a suit bag and a package in her left hand. The full shot is shown so that the viewer can get a sense of the woman that Vivian is now; a socially acceptable woman because she has packages and a nice dress. The viewer's opinion of Vivian has changed because the viewer no longer sees her as Vivian the hooker, the viewer sees her as Vivian, the graceful lady. When Vivian was walking down Rodeo Drive wearing her hooker outfit, she received looks of repulsion and disgust because of her lack of nice clothes and bags from the department stores. This particular scene demoralizes society because now, society is acceptable of her.The film reveals her to be morally and socially better because she has a new dress and hat.As the women admire her and the men desire after her, it is apparent that our culture is only interested in material things.

Custom writing service can write essays on Changes in the Viewer's Perception of VivianMaterial Effects in Society:

The next shot is of Vivian looking up into the window of the boutique where the woman made her leave the day before because of her clothes.Vivian decides to go in and show the woman how many nice things she has bought and tell her that she made a mistake by not waiting on her.As she walks in, the woman at the front of the store jumps at the opportunity to help her.The women do not even recognize her.
