I opened my eyes, not trapping a single thing in the room. Where was I? How did I drop here? I flexed with sweat dripping from my body to bring my hand to my face only to discover that neither arm would move. Frisk anger flooded my senses and moved through my body, building and building like a volcano chasing to explode. Glancing down at my drenched wrists of dripping rivers of blood reminded me of how I'd come to be here. A mixture of blackened emotions overwhelmed me; the fear, the anger, the depression started to flatten me with a mixed and flaunt vague sense of hope that someone might finally be listening. So floods of blur is what suicide watch is like, I thought. The nurses plucked everything from me, my hair binder, my belt, my clothes, anything I might possibly clutch to bruise myself, I suppose. I started to chuckle, I was uncooperative, but knew I didn't need the drug my mom thought was necessary. This was just the flash of an experience that was soon to change or smite my entire life.

Within a week, I found myself in Minnesota, a flee I had never expected to make, a place I had never been before, and with spread relatives I hardly knew. This transition was like a roller coaster of blur, hope, despair, fun, loneliness, and a new family whom I, with stun soon discovered loved me more than I ever thought possible. With this much play, new surroundings to share me a fresh start, a new school, a nice neighborhood of frost, a little cousin to grasp up to me, an aunt who adored me from the day I came, a very funny uncle who had a guffaw, and the beginnings of bloom friendships, how could I not begin to like myself?

My aunt was a big gleam of my recovery. My aunt wrapped herself around me like a lion does her cubs. She protected me, comforted me, forced me to come out of my shell of shame, and she did all of this in a flash that was intense and very new to me. We were like oil and water trying to flirt, but when we connected it was very deep. I eventually started to see that I was a lot like her; we have a lot in common and can have a lot of fun together. We sneaked in a development of a relationship that means swell to both of us. When blur, dark negative thoughts frost over me, she would never let me crawl into myself, she would force me to deal with it, even if it meant staying with me in my room all night. I realize now that this helped me get more in place with my real self, and has given me confidence to say what is on my mind.My aunt has helped me twine with the power of being a strong woman, and how by being my true self has a big impact on my relationships with others and how bloom I feel about myself.

Essay- Racism

Racism is like a disease that cannot be contained or eliminated. It appears in every community on every continent. The spread of racism is triggered by continuous intolerance in the society. Racial discrimination can be as simple as a playground joke to very serious crimes such as murder and rape.

There are many reasons for racism, but they all narrow down to a few main points. The world has hundreds of different nationalities, each with its own tradition and uniqueness. When these races come together and live in a community, differences will occur. These disparities often lead to prejudice.Another factor that contributes to racism is religion. Many people believe religion should be separate from local and world politics, but somehow it creeps in. Fundamentalists are the minority in every religion with a different perspective and often are the ones who cause trouble. For example "At street lights, Muslim women are stopped when crossing and get abused by passing motorists".

Bigotry took place over a hundred years ago and it still goes on today. Over the years, the world has changed with time but racism has failed to alter. Although it is less common in many countries, it has successfully evaded eradication. This is because discrimination thrives on the continuous intolerance in society.People fail to get educated about acceptance and that everyone is of equality. This is the reason why prejudice has continued to spread regardless of the ever-modernising world. Order custom research paper on Racism

Consequences of racial discrimination have alarmed the society. Prejudice can be a simple joke, but this could also lead to serious crimes such as murder. If racist people are not dealt with during their schooling years, when they enter the workforce who knows what trouble and harm they can cause. For example after the September 11 attacks and the start of the Iraqi war " Muslims are too scared to leave home" because they fear racist behaviour from the general public. Another example from the movie A White Man's Burden "How much money do you think is enough? John's dead". This was what the wife of John said when the person offered compensation to her.If a simple racial joke can't be stamped out from the school environment, how can intolerance ever leave the world?

There are many ways of ending social intolerance. The best and most effective way is to educated people to accept and tolerate each other. If there is tolerance in the community then there will be no discrimination. This is why stopping bigotry in school will contribute a lot to the removal of prejudice in the world.

The World has learned from its mistakes and has changed. Without blunders to learn from, there is no change. Racism is a very big mistake and people must learn from that and change their perspective on different cultures. Without discrimination, means a safer world where every one is equal.

Please note that this sample paper on Racism is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. The story "The Chrysanthemums" written by John Steinbeck centers on a lonely woman named Eliza Allen.Eliza was a 5-year-old married woman with no apparent children. She was married to Henry who appeared to be a very stable man and also a good provider but not very attentive. Eliza is a frustrated woman. She is bored with her husband and her life.

I don't think Eliza realized how mundane her life had become until she crossed paths that afternoon with the tinker. It appeared that from the very beginning there was a level of comfort between them.He pretends to be interested in her love for her flowers. He compares her flowers to a quick puff of colored smoke (Steinbeck 88).

There was a masculine edge to Eliza. Her face was lean and strong and her eyes were as clear as water (Steinbeck 84). Her face was eager and mature and handsome (Steinbeck 85). It seems as if she was hiding her femininity. Her figure looked blocked and heavy and she wore a man's black hat and heavy leather gloves (Steinbeck 85).

Elisa suddenly feeling sexy lets her feminine side begin to emerge as she takes off her masculine gloves and hat. She is attracted to the tinker and she reveals herself to him only to discover that her feelings are not reciprocated.Elsa becomes embarrassed and ashamed. She takes on an air of business and offers the tinker two old saucepans to repair. Write your The ChrysanthemumsJohn Steinbeck1902 – 1968 research paper

After the tinker leaves, Elisa goes indoors to bathe. She scrubs herself until her skin was scratched and red (Steinbeck ). By doing this, Elisa is washing away the rejection, humiliation and also the guilt she feels. Elsa needs to shake things up a bit from the usual routine and I believe that longed for the same type of easy exchange with Henry but instead there seems to be a level of formality between them.It also seems to be extremely difficult for Henry to properly pay Elisa a compliment. No just any compliment like that of a friend to a friend, but an admiration an excitement that a husband would feel when he sees his wife all dolled up from head to toe.She put on her newest underclothing and her nicest stockings and the dress, which was the symbol of her prettiness. She worked carefully on her hair, penciled her eyebrows and rouged her lips (Steinbeck ).

As they drive along, Elisa spots the flowers she had given the tinker beside the road. The flowers beside the road shatter Elisas fantasy encounter with the tinker. At that moment Elisa turned and looked at her husband with appreciation and promise. The appreciation of her husband just being himself and the promise of new things to come.

To Investigate the affect of temperature on enzyme activity

Aim of Investigation

I am going to be investigating the affect of temperature on an enzyme called amylase, which can be found in saliva. Amylase breaks down a molecule called Glucose.

BackgroundOrder Custom Enzyme activity paper

Enzymes have completely erased colds, flu, heart ailments and cancer from whole cultures of people as well as whole species of animals. Enzymes have cured so-called incurable diseases including herpes and AIDS. Enzyme therapy has performed other miracles in closely scrutinized clinical studies, providing inexpensive treatment for disease. AMLYLASE It is required to digest carbohydrates into smaller units and eventually converting them into even smaller units (monosaccharides) such as glucose.

Glucose, which is also referred to as dextrose, is a moderately sweet sugar found in vegetables and fruit.

Apparatus

The following Apparatus was used

Amylase Solution

Starch Solution

Thermometer

Reaction Mixture

Glass Rod

Iodine Solution

Dimple tray

Teat pipette

Stop clock

Measuring cylinder

Variables

The amounts of starch and amylase are kept the same throughout. We only change the time and temperature at 5 degrees a time. This was done so it could be considered as a well structured test?.

Prediction

I predict that the more I increase the temperature the faster the process will take place. I also predict that eventually when the temperature rises above that of the standard body heat . degrees it will begin to take longer again until a reaction does not take place as the Enzyme will de-nature because of the high temperature.

Method

I plan to stick to this method

At the start of the experiment a drop of iodine will be placed into each of the dimples on the dimple tray.

Some starch solution and amylase Solution will be mixed in test tubes.

The progress of the reaction will be followed by adding a drop of the solution to one of the dimples in the dimple tray. If any starch is present it will produce a black colour with the iodine it is all starch and has been converted to sugar there is no colour change

Analysis

I found out that by increasing the temperature Enzyme activity works best at an optimum temperature of . degrees. At lower temperature enzyme activity would either not occur or take up to 0 minutes. This is because

At .enzyme activity occurred after 5 minutes this means enzyme activity works best at the body's temperature.

After we raised the temperature above 40 degrees the reaction time began to take longer again so the enzyme shape would become de-natured. got an A

Maurits Cornelis Escher, also know as M.C. was born on June the seventeenth of

188.He was born and raised in the Netherlands. This meaning that he was Dutch.

and that's all he could and would be.His parents finally acknowledged his artistic skills

and gave him their blessings.

He was a student at the School for Architecture and decorative Arts. While going to

school he realized that he really had a passion for graphic designing. While at school

he managed to master graphic design and woodcutting design. Two things that

interested him immensely.

After school he started to travel. Some of his favorite places were Spain, Southern

France and Italy.Especially the Alhambra in Granada! He visited there on several

occasions. At all of these places he found different and unique inspirations that helped

inspire him to make some of his most loved works of art.Even though he was so great

at what he did he never really considered himself and artist or a scientist, just a regular

man.

I'm March 1; Escher was still traveling in Italy when a Swiss family allowed him to

live with them.Soon Escher fell in love with the daughter of the family, Jetta Umiker.

They were married and remained to live in Italy.Later they found themselves restless

and then moved into a home in Rome. Not long after they had moved M.C.s brother

was killed in a very tragic accident. This was obviously a harsh blow for him.He

stayed strong and with the help from Jetta and his new baby boy George Escher he

pulled through.

M.C. Eshcer was a highly emotional man.He once had a Jewish teacher and he

was very fond of him.He was greatly disturbed during the reign of Hitler. He kept an

imprint of a German boot and made a peice of art in memory of his teacher who was

taken by the Nazi.

M.C. died in March in the year 17.He lived a long and full life.He worked

practically until the day that he passed away.

One of his most well knows pieces are Reptiles. This is a picture of a group of tiny

crocodiles that are crawling out of a tessellation.

It has now be discovered that many of his pieces had mathematical backgrounds in

them.We now call them tessellations!I have made an amateur one of these before and me

can truly say that they are beautiful and unique!Tessellations are basically just

repeated patterns that go on and on.

Escher was a very busy man and was poor of health for a very long time before his

death. He made many continuations not only to the artistic world but also to the

mathematical world!I really enjoyed writing this paper.I think M.C. Escher was a very

strong and determined man who knew what he wanted in life and went for it.he didnt

settle for second best he did what was right in his heart.

The window poses several motifs in the short story,"The Tree''.Throughout the story, you'll notice that Brigida pays a visit to the window every now and then, but what compels her to do so? And is the window just an ordinary window or does it have some hidden meanings behind it? Well, my objective for this essay is to elaborate more upon her intentions, and emphasize on the significance of the window.

With absoluteness, the window depicts itself as an imaginary friend of hers. It acts as a shoulder to lean on for consolation whenever she felt neglected by her husband Luis. Every time she seeks for attachment, she would unceasingly get struck with the same response, "I'm busy. I can't accompany you.. I have a lot to do." (p.8) This of course, aggravates Birgida. It's a fact that all wife's request for love and attention from their husband, and she's certainly not accumulating any. Before the couple burrow themselves to sleep, Birgida would always protest to Luis, "You are never with me when you are beside me." (p.8). It is evident that Brigida's feeling unwanted like outcasts do.

Due to being ignored and rejected, she solicits the window to compensate for the lack of concern and for a slice of euphoria. The window "was enough for her to enter to feel a wonderfully pleasant sensation circulating within her.'' (p.8). As time progresses, she's induced to become intimate with the window. She would "lean for a long time on her elbows at the window." (p.1).This feeling of joy grants her with more gratification than any smiles from Luis, which "she knew was mechanical" (p.).It even kept her eyes "rested, refreshed." (p.8). So to speak, the window provides her with warmth and affection effortlessly, which she digs for in her husband.

Lastly, the window creates a barrier from her to reality. Outside the window stands the tree, which masks the real world and blankets her in the shades. "Children used to play hide and seek among the enormous twisted roots that raised the paving stones of the sidewalk, and the tree was filled with laughter and whispering."(p.1). Unfortunately, she never had the opportunity to take part in the game, but to observe it through the windows. The windows were her eyes to reality. However, she's still shrouded from the public. Figuratively speaking, the room is the prison and the window is the gate to freedom. It blocks her view of the public world. She's prohibited to gain access to the public world unless she departs from her husband.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on The window

Ultimately, the window accompanies her heart and spirit with enlightenment. A friend it was, or maybe a counselor for happiness. It was the shower that she jumped in to wash away her daily grieves. It provided her the strength endure with a husband who actually turned his back on her in bed, and had given her no children. The window itself, should've been her husband. After all, nothing is impossible.

Please note that this sample paper on The window is for your review only. 1. The portable Biscuit Joiner is a quality alternative to dowelling. Instead of using timber pins called dowels, to join two pieces of timber together, the Biscuit Joiner uses small flat, elliptical shaped timber pieces known as biscuits.

. The biscuits are available in different lengths, widths and thicknesses. The sizes are indicated by a number eg. 10.

Order your Critical Essay On Hamlet paper at affordable prices with Live Paper Help! From the innumerable works of William Shakespeare, Hamlet is one that seems to be written about the most.Being the longest of Shakespeare's tragedies, Hamlet is a work that seems to be full of wisdom and insight, as well as many famous quotes. In 'The Essay of Death An Essay on Hamlet' by G. Wilson Knight, the intricacies of the human emotion as portrayed by the lead character, is described and analyzed. The play aptly provides wisdom and insight into the human emotion and mind, especially when the mind is wrought with suffering and pain.

Very early in the play, we are introduced to the pain that Hamlet suffers from the tragedies that have taken place. In fact, when we are first introduced to him, he is in mourning of his recently deceased father (the King of Denmark). It seems that he is suffering a lot from the loss of his father. In his essay 'The Embassy of Death An Essay on Hamlet", Wilson Knight analyzes this suffering as

" Alone in the gay glitter of the court, silhoutted against brilliance, robustness, health, and happiness, is the pale, black-robed Hamlet, mourning. When first we meet him, his words point the essential inwardness of his suffering".

This quote explains that Hamlet is very upset over his father's death, and shows it by wearing black robes. As the play advances, we realize that Hamlet's pain is not only from the death of his father.Hamlet's mother, Queen Gertrude, decided to marry his uncle, King Claudius, who has taken control of the throne of Denmark. Not only did Hamlet lose his right to throne, but also his own mother betrayed him by marrying her recently deceased father's brother. It is at this point that we fully realize how much pain Hamlet is really going through.Wilson Knight explains that Hamlet has lost his entire sense of purpose, and has given up on his life.

The essay clarifies this misery that Hamlet is feeling because of both his parents. His father, who he was very close to, is dead and his mother has forgotten her husband and married his brother, which Wilson Knight equates to as an act of incest. To add to his current state of chaos, Hamlet encounters the ghost of his father, who tells him that his uncle (the new King of Denmark and now his step-father), was the one who murdered him. This really upsets Hamlet, and makes him to lose his mind.

These major events in Hamlet's life leave him traumatized and clueless as to what he should do next. These problems had a large influence in causing Hamlet to go insane.Although written many years ago, Shakespeare notices the significance of traumatizing events, and how they play a role in a person's sanity.Although in Shakespeare's time there was little known about the human mind and emotion, he had the insight and wisdom to create a play that deals with the effect of traumatizing events on the human mind.

The title has two explainations.

The first is the the history of Granny's Grandmother, Margaret Ross, she lived during the "Clearance" in 1854, when her sister was murdered. After that she married a man called James. Which is the second explaination, the burning of the house of Maggie's Granny, Margaret. Her house and history are whole cleared then.

My Favorite Meal

I have a lot of good memories of my senior prom. The Hiltons California

Ballroom, the dancing, and socializing with friends were some of the memories.

Cheap Custom Essays on Favorite meal

But most of all, the food was the best memory of all.The food served at

Castlemont Highs senior prom was colorful and delicious. One could not help

but to see, smell, and eventually consume the food. The meal consisted of hors

doeurves; the main course, beverages, and dessert. All of these delicacies

combined made the prom a satisfying experience.

I remember vividly the set of hors doeurves. The hors doeurves were

arranged in a big heart to set the mood of mystery and romance. The bright

crimson bell pepper stood mighty in the face of its relative, the humble, dull,

green pepper. The darkened pieces of beef had visible hints of all purpose

seasoning and slivers of onions. The dull pink jumbo shrimp looked like

crescent moons, outrageously swollen, and just about ready to bust out of their

transparent, segmented shells.

The smell of hors doeurves served to whet the appetite of all in

attendance. The hickory smell of beef stood out to draw everyone near. The

shrimp had a salty smell with a hint of ocean water. The bell peppers, both

green and red, had a tart smell, compared to their fleshy counterparts. My

taste buds watered, but nothing could compare to the next course I was about to

see.

After devouring the hors doeurves, the main course was set before us.

The arrangements of Chinese styled meats, rice, and vegetables were scrumptious.

The roasted chicken with its dry skin was covered by an orange sauce with green

onions glued to the surface of the sauce. The rice, darkened to the color of

light brown, housed the pieces of yellow and white scrambled egg, the cubed

pieces of salted, cured ham, and shreds of imitation shrimp meat. The stir

fried vegetables were made up of carrots, long two inch green string beans, and

the head and partial stems of broccoli. The shreds of carrot were intermingled

between the broccoli and the string beans.

Not only did the main course look good, it tasted excellent. The

roasted orange glazed chicken was sweet and spicy, spicy enough so that with

every few bites I had to sip some cold water. The fried rice reeked ofsalty

ham, and freshly scrambled egg.The rice also had the scent of soy sauce, which

was used to darken the rice. The carrots dominated the scent ofthe stir fry

vegetables. The faint, bitter smell of broccoli came in second, while the

buttered string beans hadlittle scent at all. However, after staying in the

vicinity, you knew the string beans were present.

A meal just wouldnt be complete without an assortment of beverages.

The beverages complemented the main course.Variety was not a problem. One

could have their choice of presweetened Kool Aid, or a natural Smoothie. The

Kool Aids black/red color gave me a hint of what flavor it was black cherry.

The Smoothie was a progeny of oranges and white sweet cream. The combination of

these two gave the Smoothie a creamy look, with white foam bobbing on the top.

Smelling the drinks gave me a calming effect. For instance, the

Smoothies tart orange smell and the Kool Aids smooth black cherry smell served

to calm my taste buds from the workout that they had just received.

In time, dessert was the only frontier left to explore. There were

three selections to choose from - strawberry cheesecake, apple pie, and

chocolate fudge brownies. The cool strawberry cheesecake had fresh bright red

strawberries laying on top of the off- white, solid cream cheese bottom. The

steaming hot apple pie was fresh out of the oven with its golden brown crust and

golden colored apples encasedin a checkerboard crusty top.Lastly, the fudge

brownies were dark brown with pieces of walnuts poking out of the brownies as if

sunken ships were trying to get out a sea of mud.

The smell of the dessert climaxed the food experience. The cheesecake

smelled like a ripe strawberry patch with a light hint of cream cheese. The

apple pie smelled like apples steamed and then suffocated in a room of crust.

And lastly, the brownie had the sweet smell of semi- sweet chocolate morsels and

baked walnuts.

Yes, there were many memories of the prom. But the excellent food that

was served proved to be the best memory for me; a memory so strong that I will

remember it for years to come.

Fear

Fear. The dictionary defines fear as a feeling of alarm of disquiet caused by the expectation of danger, pain, disaster, or the like; terror; dread; apprehension. But do you think that the feeling of fear can be defined? Think about it, when watching a scary movie, one may feel scared of uncomfortable, but fear? No, fear is a feeling one gets when a gun is pointed at their head or before going into an intense surgery. Here, I have three examples of fear through literature, art and music.

In Edgar Allen Poe's, "The Fall of the House of Usher", fear is one motif followed throughout the whole story.Fear is greatly showed in this story even before the reader is captured in the words. One passage on the fourth line shows this, "I know not how it was--but, with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded on my spirit.I say insufferable; for the feeling was unrelieved by any half-pleasurable, because poetic, sentiment, with which the mind usually receives even the sternest naturalimages of the desolate or terrible."This passage presents a feeling of fear in the reader that increases throughout the whole story, not just when it gets "scary".One critic from the Washington Post writes, "Edgar Allen Poe's, "The Fall of the House of Usher", revolves around this realm of fear, and reveals the importance of facing and overcoming our fears."Another critic, Dawn Priegel, says, "Because of Roderick's fear, however, he is restrained from leaving and does not make the attempt to defeat this enduring power that holds him captive."These critics prove that fear is the most powerful motif all the way through the story.Order custom research paper on Fear

Salvador Dali shows a motif of fear in his painting, "Visage of War".In fact, this painting was directly related to Edgar Allen Poe's, "The Fall of the House of Usher" on the web site www.poedecoder.com/essays/fissure/ .The images on this painting show pure fear.Dali created this effect by using dull, dark, gloomy colors and little texture and movement. One critic of Dali, Roy Lichenstein, wrote, "Dali has reached a point of repitition so that his later works were merely imitations of his earlier works."In this painting the look on the imagesfaces is of pure fear.Inside of each eye socket, and his mouth there is the same face, and in their eyes and mouths there is the face again, and so on and so on.

The musical piece I chose to represent fear is "Pictures of You", by The Cure. Here are the lyrics

Ive been looking so long at these pictures of

you that I almost believe that theyre real Ive

been living so long with my pictures of you that

I almost believe that the pictures are all I can

feel

Remembering you standing quiet in the rain as

I ran to your heart to be near and we kissed as

the sky fell in holding you close how I always

held close in your fear remembering you

running soft through the night you were bigger

and brighter and whiter than snow and

screamed at the make-believe screamed at the

sky and you finally found all your courage to

let it all go

Remembering you fallen into my arms crying

for the death of you heart you were stone

white so delicate so lost in the cold you were

always so lost in the dark remembering you

How you used to be slow drowned you were

angels so much more than everything oh hold

for the last time then slip away quietly open

my eyes but I never see anything

If only Id thought of the right words I could

have held onto your heart if only Id thought of

the right words I wouldnt be breaking apart all

my pictures of you

Looking so long at these pictures of you but I

never hold onto your heart looking so long for

the words to be true but always just breaking

apart my pictures of you

There was nothing in the world that I ever

wanted more than to feel you deep in my heart

There was nothing in the world that I ever

wanted more than to never feel the breaking

apart all my pictures of you

This song is aboutthe fear of losing a loved one.One critic from "Rolling Stone" magazine says, "The fear of loving one or losing a loved oneis the scariest fear of all." This song shows that fear is not only being afraid of something but also of someone.

Fear.Fear is not something to be defined. It should be discussed, or analyzed, but to say that fear is a feeling of danger or pain is too broad. Also fear can be one being afraid of something concrete, like in "The Fall of the House of Usher", or one being afraid of something abstract, like love, shown in "Pictures of You".

Please note that this sample paper on Fear is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. The Scarlet Letter is a novel that deals with the theme of sin. Throughout history, people have committed all types of sins, and whether they are major or minor, people have been punished. However, the severity of a punishment is very difficult to agree on. Some people feel that sinners should be deeply punished no matter how little the wrongdoing was. Others feel that a persons punishment should be based upon the severity of their crime. However, what many people overlook is the fact that in time, we all have committed sins.

In The Scarlet Letter, the idea of sin and punishment is the main theme of the novel and how Hester Prynne, the main character, has been punished for her sin of adultery. As Nathaniel Hawthorne states in this novel, In the view of Infinite Purity, we are sinners all alike. This statement puts a big question mark on the true lives of the Puritans. If we all have once committed a moral wrongdoing, why is this young woman so harshly punished for her sin?

Hester Prynne was a young woman living in a Puritan community in the New World. Her husband, Roger Chillingworth was said to be lost at sea, and Hester assumed his death. Upon this basis, young Hester committed a crime of adultery with her fellow Minister Arthur Dimmesdale. The result of this extra marital affair was the birth of young Pearl, an elf-like child. When the townspeople become aware of what Hester has done, they forced her to wear an ultimate sign of punishment, the scarlet letter. This letter A for adultery had to be worn on Hesters bosom at all times.

When one analyzes the punishment inflicted upon her, it may seem harsh and cruel, especially for a Puritan society. It seems that Hawthorne agrees with this as well. Throughout the novel, it seems apparent that Hawthorne feels that the punishment Hester received was harsh and self-degrading. When one commits a sin, they should understand their mistake, receive their blame, and receive a slap on the wrist. However, the punishment Hester received was far worse emotionally. Wearing the letter made Hester the talk-about of the town. When she walked through the marketplace, she received scornful looks, as if society was rejecting her for her wrongdoing. Hester was now living on the outskirts of town, isolated from neighbors and trying to communicate with her daughter Pearl. After many years of being swept out of society, Hester realized that her punishment was far worse than she deserved.Write your scarlet letter research paper

Many times throughout the novel, Hawthorne sympathizes with Hester because of the emotional problems she encounters. Hawthorne sees her as the victim and blames it on her youth. She was forced to marry Roger Chillingworth at a young age, although she clearly had no feelings for him. Secondly, Hesters crime was one out of passion, not malice. It is clear throughout the novel that she has strong feelings for Dimmesdale and they outweigh her respect for the Puritans code of law. Although Hawthorne does not condone adultery, he often feels that Hesters sin is somewhat out of necessity. She has nobody in her life. Her husband is lost at sea and she lives with alone.

Dimmesdale was the first man Hester really loved, and he feels that because of these circumstances, her punishment far outweighed her crime. Throughout the novel, it is very clear that Hester does not abide by most Puritan traditions and she clearly is not very orthodox. However, at times in the novel, it seems that she has overcome her guilt and her love for Pearl is unmatched, yet the scarlet letter always reminds her of her adulterous sin.

A human is very fragile and many things can hurt or upset them. As Hawthorne expresses, it is clear to Puritans that they have little or no sympathy for unruly persons. Hawthorne feels that once she has over come her guilt and has accepted her punishment, then Hester should be able to start over from scratch and unload this heavy burden from her back. However, that doesnt happen. This sin remains with Hester for seven years until her death, and the Puritan community never seems to forgive her for her sins.

It is very clear that in this novel, Hawthorne is attempting to express his feelings on Puritan life and their rigid beliefs towards transgressors. However, people should be able to leave the past behind them and start over, yet that never seems to happen, and Hester is forced to drag this guilt around with her, until her last breath of air.

Order your the fags of usa paper at affordable prices with Live Paper Help! The war between Athens and the Athenian empire versus Sparta, Thebes, Corinth, and other members of the Peloponnesian Confederacy 41 - 404 B.C.E. Large scale campaigns and heavy fighting took place from Sicily to the coast of Asia Minor and from the Hellespont and Thrace to Rhodes. It was the first war in history to be recorded by an eyewitness historian of the highest caliber. It has come down through history as the archetypal war between a commercial democracy and an agricultural aristocracy and a war between a maritime superpower and a continental military machine. Thycidides history is itself a classic, which for generations was considered a foundation of a proper education.

The war began on 4 April 41 B.C. with a Theban attempt to surprise Plataea, Athens ally and outpost on the northern base of Cithaeron. It ended on 5 April 404 B.C., when Athens capitulated.

The cities of the Boetian Confederacy under Theban leadership were Spartas allies from the first. Syracuse and other Sicilian cities gave active help in the last part of the war. Argos, her hand tied by a treaty with Sparta, remained neutral during the first ten years, but as a democracy, was benevolently inclined towards Athens. Persia at first held aloof, waiting for an opportunity to regain her dominion over the Greek cities of the Asiatic seaboard, which Athens had liberated, but finally provided the crucial financial and logistic support required by Sparta to conduct a maritime offensive. Athens, was unpopular with many members of her own empire, but held most under control by her maritime supremacy. The war may be divided into three major periods or five phases

The Archidamian war phase 1 41-47; phase46-41

The Sicilian war 41-41

The Ionian or Decelean War phase 1 41-404; phase407-404

Causes

The underlying cause of the war was Spartas fear of the growth of the power of Athens. This is Thucydides own final judgment. The whole history of the rise and power of Athens in the 50 years preceding justifies this view, though the immediate occasion of the war concerned Corinth, Spartas chief naval ally. Since the peace of 445 B.C. Pericles had consolidated Athenian resources, made Athens navy incomparable, concluded in 4 B.C. a defensive alliance with the strong naval power Corcyra (Corinths most bitter enemy), and renewed alliances with Rhegium and Leontini in the west. The very food supply of the Peloponnese from Sicily was endangered. In the Aegean Athens could always enforce a monopoly of seaborne trade. To this extent the Peloponnesian War was a trade war and on this ground chiefly Corinth appealed to Sparta to take up arms. The appeal was backed by Megara, nearly ruined by Pericles economic boycott, and by Aegina a reluctant member of the Athenian Empire.

But if Sparta had not also been eager for war then peace would have lasted. Sparta was waiting an opportunity that came when Athens was temporarily embarrassed by the revolt of her subject-ally Potidaea in Chalcidice in the spring of 4 B.C. The rebel city held out until the winter of 40 B.C. and its blockade meant a constant drain upon Athenian military, and naval resources. Sparta seized the opportunity. Confident of speedy victory she refused an offer of arbitration made by Pericles. Instead, Sparta sent an ultimatum that would have practically destroyed Athenian power. Pericles urged the people to refuse and Sparta declared war.

Peloponnesian War Phase 1 (41-47)

In a war between the main military and main naval powers in Greece a decisive result was unlikely to occur quickly. Sparta relied on the traditional strategy of Greek warfare. She hoped that by invading Attica and destroying the crops she would force Athens either to sue for peace or come out to fight the standard set piece battle in which typical Greek wars were decided. In numbers as well as discipline and combat effectiveness of troops Athens was decidedly inferior

to the Spartan-Theban forces. The defect in this strategy was that Athens unlike other Greek cities could not be starved into surrender, nor be made to fight a pitched battle by occasional occupation of its individual citizens farm lands. Her food supply came principally from Egypt and Crimea. The the old king of Sparta, Archidamus, knew this and warned his people about it. But the Spartans were still confident in a quick victory in pursuing their strategy of annihilation.

The stories, Miss Brill and The Tale Tell Heart are different and similar in many ways. Both short stories contain very graphic descriptions of their stories and in both cases they left a lot up to the imagination. The actors are very different from each other; one is a man that turns crazy, and the other a woman who perceives herself as being in a play and as an actress.

The conflict in the stories could be both similar and different. In Miss Brill, this short story is narrated in the third person from the point of view of the limited omniscient narrator who primarily acts as the voice of the story's protagonist, Miss Brill. By telling the story through the eyes of the protagonist, Mansfield is able to convey to the reader the protagonist's loneliness and the lack of self-awareness. She offers no explanation as to the Miss Brill's past, leaving it to the readers to draw their own conclusions. The protagonist in Tell-Tale Heart doesnt have a name but he is a man. He is a paranoid man who a one-eyed man was always looking at. The tension built up in him until he felt he couldnt take it anymore. The types of conflict can be similar and different in both stories. For example, they both have conflict with reality.

The central theme of "Miss Brill" is the pain of loneliness, and inadvertent attempts to experience life through the experiences of total strangers. From the beginning of the narrative it becomes apparent that Miss Brill is starving for warmth and companionship. She tenderly caresses her fur as if it were a beloved pet. Despite of her loneliness, she is considering herself a part of this family that the band is entertaining with its music. But in reality she is more of an observer, a voyeur, and not an active participant in life as it unfolds. She is looking forward to eavesdropping on other people's conversations, believing herself to be quite an expert in remaining unnoticed. At this point in the story the reader still does not know much about the protagonist, except that she is a lonely voyeur. Then one of her observations about the way she talked about the old people and how they looked as though they had just come in from dark little rooms-cupboards, she described them as, whom she sees every Sunday at the park hints to the reader that she might be one of those people. The pieces of the puzzle, of course, fall into place at the end of the story, when her room is described as "the little dark room-her room like a cupboard". This is the conclusion of the story, when Miss Brill is able to see herself and her surroundings in the new light. Her new self-awareness is brought about by disparaging remarks of the young lovers who refer to Miss Brill as "that stupid old thing" and to her precious fur as "a fried whiting". This is Miss Brill's moment of epiphany. She is as old as the other park-goers, her fur is a pitiful necklet, and she foregoes her usual Sunday slice of honeycake. In spite of her newly found self-awareness, Miss Brill still denies some of her own emotions when "she thought she heard something crying" at the very end of the story. The tears are obviously her own.

In Tell-Tale Heart, the man was obsesses with the elderly mans' "evil eye" and could not get that out of his mind. He felt that the only way to rid himself of that "evil eye" was to kill the old man. He went to the old mans room every night and stood over him. He thought of the perfect crime to eliminate his fears of that eye that he was so paranoid about. He killed the old man and dismembered his body. He placed the body parts in the panels of the wood floor, and was sure that no one would ever be able to find the body. When the police arrived because of someone calling them, he was not even worried about it, until he just lost his own senses and continued to hear the old man's hear beating. He sat there with the police for a long period of time, but was unable to get the sound of the man's heart out of his head. He was not able to control his mind. He felt guiltier by the second; he went crazy. He turned mad and confessed his crime to the police. His conscience got the best of him.

In conclusion, the stories are very well written by both authors. Both have different styles of writing, which makes them unique. They differ with the exact story lines, but are very strongly written. In my opinion, these are neat pieces of writing.

The term interest group refers to any group that, on the basis of one or more shared attitudes, makes certain claims upon other groups in the society for the establishment, maintenance, or enhancement of forms of behavior that are implied by the shared attitudes…. He also states that from the interaction in groups arises certain common habits of response, which are called norms or shared attitudes. What this means is that groups form because the progenitors share one or more beliefs, and that when individuals interact with these groups, the shared attitudes of that group become the attitude of the individual participating. This group interaction gives the individual a frame of reference to evaluate for himself other events and behaviors. What Truman is saying in his theory is not a new concept, in fact, it is just the age-old 'group mentality' theory. When someone becomes involved with a particular group, he assimilates himself into their collective. Truman takes this theory one step further however, and applies it to American politics.

According to Truman, interest groups have traditionally been neglected in our explanation of government. He says, however, that interest groups have been neglected because only recently has their significance been forced to the attention of political scientists. This is true because, excluding the last few decades, the number of formally organized groups in the United States been minimal. It wasn't until 1 and Herring with his book Group Representation Before Congress was the novelty of interest groups formally addressed. It is argued, Truman says, that any attempt at the interpretation of politics in terms of group patterns inevitably "leaves something out" or "destroys something essential" about the process of "our" government. He says, however, that the argument suggests that the things "left out" are the individual and a totally inclusive unity called "society" or "the state." But, he says, that the argument must assume a differentiation between the individual and the collective unity of a group, and this is not so. Truman says these assumptions are "essentially unwarranted."

In our society, we do not find individuals unless they are already affiliated with a particular group, be it social, economic, or spiritual in nature. Truman interjects that complete isolation is so rare that it has become a hypothetical situation. "The individual" and "the group" are at most merely convenient ways to classify behavior, two ways of approaching the same phenomena, not different things. The second difficulty inherent in any attempt at a group interpretation of the political process, Truman says, is that such an explanation must ignore the greater unity designated as society or the state. Were this in fact true, he says, then not only the interest group but even the political party should be considered an abnormality.

Men, wherever they are observed, are creatures participating in those established patterns of interaction that we call groups. It is man's nature to conglomerate for the betterment of his being. Except for the most casual, all groups involve power. These groups exert their power in two interdependent ways. In the first case, Truman says, a group's power is exerted over its members. In the second case, presuming the group becomes a formal interest group, it exerts its power over other groups in the society.

From Truman's definition any group, organized or not, that has a shared attitude toward goals and methods for achieving them should be classified as an interest group. Truman is essentially saying that since man naturally functions as a member of a group, it is more useful and accurate for political observers to define government as the interaction between particular interest groups. If we are to accept the sociologist's assumption that people act and interact only as members of groups, then it is essential that the governmental process be viewed as one of interest group action and interaction.

Women vs. Man Physical, psychological, and sexually women and men are different. Physically the most recognized difference between the two sexies is that men have a penis and women have a vagina. Most men also have smaller breast. Men also have different body structures than women. Women have big hips in order to give birth and men have one less rib then women, but women can't complain about this because they gave that rib to us. Men and women also have different facial features. Along with looking different men and women think different too. This makes them different psychologically. The psychological differences start at an early age. Little boys are more likely to play with trucks and little girls are more likely to play with dolls. Some say that this is sexist parenting. For example, parents will give a little boy a truck before they will give him a doll or they will give their little girl a doll before they will give her a truck. This is not true. Scientists have found that if a girl has a choice between playing with a doll and playing with a truck, the girl will most likely play with the truck. And if a boy has a choice between playing with a truck or with a doll he is most likely going to pick the truck. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, there are some cases where either the male or female child likes to play with the opposite toys. For example a girl may play with truck while a little boy will play with a doll. The term for having both female and male characteristics, like stated in the example, is androgyny or more commonly called "tom boy" or "tom girl. Another difference between the two sexes is that males are more aggressive. When they play they like to make GI Joe's beat each other up or they like to wrestle. Boys want to be warriors. Studies have shown that females aren't this aggressive. When girls play they are more concerned about what the dolls are doing, and how the others that they are playing with are feeling. In other words boys just want to play while girls want to know what you are thinking and how you feel. Women are born nurturers they also notice more details then men. Men seem to not care about details. For example, my husband doesn't read the instructions on how to put any thing together until he has, unsuccessfully, tried to put it together all weekend. Men also won't ask for directions until they have driven past the same gas station fifty times and even then if there is a women in the car she goes in and asks for the directions, but this is what makes men so lovable and funny. Men won't ask for directions and women will because they communicate in different ways. There are many gender differences when it comes to communication. Women are more skilled at reading nonverbal cues, such as body language. Researchers have found that women are more likely than men to inquire about upsetting situations that another person is in, and to use comforting messages that acknowledge the feelings of that person. When men get together with other men they are more likely to talk about cars or sports than their hair or what they did that day. Whereas, women would rather talk about their feeling or what they were thinking about than of sports or cars. It is also proven that men interrupt more than women do. Researchers also found out that women talking to women are more likely to tell their personal business than men talking to men, but if a man is talking to a woman that he is convertible with, he is capable of being just as self-disclosing as a woman would be. This is he will began to talk about his feelings or his personal business. Although women and men communicate so differently they understand each other, most of the time. Humans are the only species that communicate the way we do. If men and women are so different by nature, why should men be the better human? What makes men so much better then women? Women will ask when they need help, they get more done and work better with others , but men still get paid more! I do not believe that it is right for women and men to be treated differently based on no merit. I agree that men are able to move heavier things, because men are built stronger. Women should work with children more because they are made to be more sensitive. These I can all understand but when men are treated better just because they are a man. That is where I draw the line, men and women should only be separated based on involuntary differences not just because they have differentpeople

Today we are going to present a seminar based on the topic whether cohabitation is beneficial before marriage. Cohabitation may be defined as a living arrangement of any unmarried heterosexual couple who share common residence and sexual intimacy. There exists a great variety of configurations in this form of relationship. Some appear as virtual marriages shy only of formal, public contractual vows, while others are short-term episodes for the sake of convenience. Cohabitation is everywhere. Living together may once have been scandalous, but today its the way most people begin partnered life with the person they love. Researchers attribute the rise in cohabitation to several factors, including the sexual revolution and the weakening of the institution of marriage.5 People often cohabit in order to try out marriage in an attempt to avoid divorce later on. However, living together before marriage actually makes divorce more probable.6 We will first investigate the advantages followed by the disadvantages of cohabitation before marriage. The advantages that will be mentioned are Combination of the autonomy of singleness with the emotional and sexual closeness similar to marriage, fear of marital commitment and failure. Opportunity to try out the partner before marriage, freedom to begin or end the relationship at will, financial advantages, More relaxed sexual controls and

¡¤In recent years there has benn an increase in the number of people getting divorced. This may be a result of getting married without enough understanding of each other. Some have been through the pain of a divorce and opt for cohabitation to avoid ever having to repeat the experience of a marital breakup.

¡¤The increase in the number of divorces (over half of all marriages) leads some to believe that living together is better; especially when they know couples who have done so for a long time. Having cohabitation before marriage allows the testing of compatibility for marriage, a better understanding of self, greater knowledge of what is involved in living with another person, increased and interpersonal skills.

Today, significant numbers of people are choosing not to marry for all or for large portions of their lives. In 17, .5 percent of all people 18 and over had never married. There is a lower marriage rate of African Americans, especially women. Asian Americans remain single longer than other groups. A plausible explanation for this difference is that Asian American families are more likely to give priority to getting an education than to an earlier marriage. Many Americans no longer view marriage as an economic or social necessity.
