The Outsiders by S.E Hinton is a novel about two gangs that often get into fights, but one night one of the greasers gets so worried he kills Bob one of the socs, the greaser that kills him is named Johnny Cade.
Johnny is 16 years old. Johnny has long He has long, jet-black, heavily greased hair that is always combed to the side with shaggy bangs across his forehead. Johnny is the smallest of the gang but he is probably the most kind and caring of them all. He was always loyal to his friends and would stick up for them in any situation.Dally loves him like a brother and very deeply cares about him. Dally is probably the only one that really cares about him both his mother and father hate him, his mother ignores him and his father beats him. Sometimes Johnny talks about killing himself because his parents dont want him, and his life isnt going anywhere. Johnny has been a nervous wreck ever since Bob and a couple of Bob's friends had jumped him while they were drunk. Ever since this happened Johnny carried a switchblade with him, which he never carried around with him before. He will not what so ever walk the streets by himself anymore. Ponyboy usually goes with him. One night Johnny and Ponyboy were sitting and talking when Bob decides to pick a fight he doesn't mean to kill bob, but he was drowning Ponyboy and he didn't know what to do so he stabbed him. Johnny just kind of stood there very stunned that he had just killed someone, it's not the kind of thing he'd do. So he and Ponyboy have to run away so they don't get caught. Johnny and Ponyboy hop on a train to try to get their selves out of trouble. So when they got to where they wanted to go they headed up to a church where they were going to stay. Johnny being as kind as he is goes shopping for them he picks up Ponyboys favorite book and Ponyboy reads it to him and Johnny really enjoys it. Then Johnny decides that they need to cut their hair all off, all their very long, greasy hair. They go out for a while and when they get back they realize that the church is on fire and hear many children screaming for help, Johnny dives in the church window and Ponyboy follows him.
